British Airways is set to enhance its Italian travel offerings by introducing three new routes for summer 2025, further solidifying its position as a leading carrier to Italy.
The strategic expansion will bring the airline’s total Italian destinations to 19, the most of any European country in its network.
Italy: New Routes and Destinations
Rimini: Adriatic Coast Gem
Starting 15 May 2025, British Airways will launch flights to Rimini from London Heathrow, operating three times weekly. Located in the Emilia-Romagna region, Rimini offers travelers a compelling blend of historical charm and coastal allure.
The destination boasts over 15 kilometers of sandy beaches, vibrant nightlife, and significant historical landmarks such as the Arch of Augustus and Tiberius Bridge. The city serves as an excellent base for exploring surrounding attractions, including the UNESCO World Heritage Site of San Marino.
Flights to Rimini will continue until 27 September 2025, providing ample opportunity for summer travelers to experience the region’s diverse offerings.
Salerno: Gateway to the Amalfi Coast
BA Euroflyer will introduce thrice-weekly flights from London Gatwick to Salerno, beginning 22 May 2025. The newly operational Salerno Costa d’Amalfi Airport presents an attractive alternative to Naples for accessing the renowned Amalfi Coast.
Salerno itself promises a rich travel experience, featuring stunning ocean views, engaging piazzas, and a delightful mix of culinary and cultural attractions.
Travelers can explore nearby iconic towns like Positano, Amalfi, and Ravello, each offering breathtaking Mediterranean landscapes. The service will continue until 25 October 2025.
Olbia: Sardinian Coastal Destination
British Airways will provide dual departure options for Olbia, with flights from both London City and Heathrow. BA Cityflyer will operate a weekly service from 25 May 2025, increasing to twice weekly from 16 July 2025.
Situated on Sardinia’s northeastern coast, Olbia combines historical significance with spectacular natural beauty. Highlights include the vibrant Mercato di San Benedetto and proximity to the luxurious Costa Smeralda. Flights will operate until 28 September 2025, complementing the airline’s existing Cagliari route.
Strategic Rationale and Market Demand
Neil Chernoff, British Airways’ Chief Planning and Strategy Officer, emphasized the strategic rationale behind these new network additions. “Italy remains our biggest European destination and second globally,” he noted.
“Last month, we saw a 10% increase in searches for summer flights to Italy compared to 2023, so we’re pleased to be offering an even bigger choice of destinations next year.”
“Rimini, Salerno and Olbia are all coastal destinations, so we expect them to be particularly popular with our leisure customers seeking sun, sea, and of course Italy’s fantastic food.”
The new routes specifically target leisure travelers seeking sun, sea, and authentic Italian experiences. By offering diverse coastal locations, British Airways aims to meet growing summer travel demand. At the same time, it provides customers with expanded options for exploring Italy’s rich cultural and natural landscapes.
These carefully selected destinations reflect British Airways’ commitment to enhancing its European network and meeting evolving traveler preferences.
