British Airways BA1455 Edinburgh- London
After conducting a normal landing, the aircraft was leaving the runway on a high-speed runway exit when the incident occurred.
The high speed taxiway is designed to expedite aircraft turning off the runway after landing, thus reducing runway occupancy time.
Smoke was observed emanating from the left main gear tyres which then extended to the right main gear tyres. The aircraft was subsequently brought to a stop on the runway shoulder.
The position of the aircraft presented an obstruction to the active runway, and several inbound flights were forced to go around as a result.
Flight data shows that the BA1455 service made a delayed departure out of Edinburgh on 29 April. The flight shows an actual departure time of 1807 local time, against the scheduled departure time of 1735 local.
The flight had proceeded normally, claiming to flight level FL350 (35,000 feet) on the southerly track to London.
The descent and arrival procedure were similarly conducted normally. The weather conditions for the arrival at Heathrow were VFR with a dry runway surface.
