About G-ZBJG – The British Airways Boeing 787 Involved in the Emergency…
G-ZBJG is the aircraft involved in the emergency onboard British Airways flight BA143.
As per Planespotters, G-ZBJG is a 10.0 year old Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner that was delivered to the airline in July 2014.
Furthermore, of the 787-8 variant, BA has 12 of them in the fleet.
Of that 12, all but one are in active service, with an average fleet age of 9.0 years.
Descent Commenced…
BA143 has commenced it’s descent back into LHR. It is still unclear what the nature of the emergency is at this time.
Squawk Changed…
BA143 has changed it’s squawk code from 7700 to 7233, but is still continuing for a return into Heathrow.
British Airways Emergency Tracking Over Southend…
British Airways flight BA143 London-Delhi is tracking over Southend at FL160. It is unclear whether any holds will be needed to burn fuel or not.

BA143 appears to be entering a hold, either for fuel burn or due to congestion at LHR.

BA143 has exited it’s hold and is continuing on for it’s approach into LHR.

BA143 is on the base leg into LHR. Landing is expected in the next few moments.
On Final Approach…
BA143 is now on final approach for the 27s at LHR.
TOUCHDOWN!
TOUCHDOWN! British Airways flight BA143, originally bound for Delhi, has appeared to have touched down safely back into London Heathrow after declaring an emergency over European airspace.
Furthermore, AviationSource has approached the airline for a comment on the incident.
As soon as we have further information, we will update you accordingly.

British Airways Releases Statement…
British Airways have responded to our queries, and they have said the following on the incident:
“The flight returned to London Heathrow as a precaution due to a minor technical issue. It landed safely and customers disembarked as normal.”
“We’ve apologised to our customers for the disruption and our expert teams are working hard to get our customers’ journeys back on track.”
“Safety is our most important priority and we would never operate a flight unless it was safe to do so.”
Minor Technical Issue = Engine Surge…
@FlightEmergency on X is reporting that the cause of the emergency was due to an engine surge.
The replacement BA143 service is enroute to Delhi now.
