Breeze Airways Takes Delivery of Airbus A220 from Azorra

Breeze Airways has taken delivery of a new Airbus A220-300, the first of a 22 lot delivery from the aircraft lessor Azorra.

Azorra is celebrating delivery of its first Airbus A220-300 from its firm orderbook of 22 to Breeze Airways, the A220s third largest customer worldwide.

Delivered from Airbus’ Mirabel facility in Canada, this plane marks the initial step in fulfilling Azorra’s order for 22 Airbus A220-300s.

The new aircraft becomes the 24th A220 to join Breeze’s fleet. It is also the first to be assembled at the Airbus Mirabel plant.

A220 Environmental and Operational Benefits

The A220 goes beyond offering a pleasant cabin experience, with significant operator benefits. It significantly contributes to reducing airline operating costs and environmental impact.

Compared to older generation aircraft, the A220 boasts a 25% decrease in fuel burn and CO2 emissions per seat.

This advantage stems from its state-of-the-art design, incorporating advanced materials and Pratt & Whitney’s latest-generation GTF™ engines.

Passengers will enjoy a quieter journey as well, thanks to the A220’s 50% reduced noise footprint compared to its predecessors.

Furthermore, it produces nearly 40% lower NOx emissions than industry standards. As with all Airbus aircraft, the A220 is already compatible with up to 50% Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF).

Airbus is aiming for 100% SAF capability across its fleet by 2030.

Connecting Underserved Routes

The A220’s impressive range of up to 3,600 nautical miles (6,700 kilometers) makes it the perfect choice for Breeze Airways’ strategy of offering non-stop service between underserved routes within the United States.

As of April 2024, Breeze has received 23 A220s directly from Airbus’ Mobile, Alabama, production facility.

Earlier this year, the airline placed an additional order for 10 A220-300s, bringing their total firm order for the aircraft type to 90.

This solidifies Breeze’s position as the third-largest global customer for the A220 and underscores their commitment to an all-A220 fleet for commercial operations by the end of 2024.

A Global Success Story: The A220

With nearly 330 A220s delivered to 20 airlines operating across five continents, the aircraft’s versatility is undeniable.

It caters to both regional routes and long-distance flights, offering optimal operational flexibility. Over 100 million passengers have already experienced the A220, which currently serves more than 1,400 routes and 440 destinations worldwide.

As of April 2024, this success is further validated by over 30 customers placing orders for more than 910 A220 aircraft, solidifying its leading position in the small single-aisle market.
