US leisure low-cost carrier Breeze Airways has achieved a key financial milestone; reporting its first full quarter of operating profit in the final quarter of 2024.
It marks the first profitable quarter since the airline was established in 2021.
In the fourth quarter, Breeze generated over $200 million in revenue, securing an operating margin exceeding 4%. The annual revenue reached an impressive $680 million, representing an impressive 78% increase from the previous year.
This rapid growth trajectory demonstrates the airline’s unique market positioning and operational strategy.
Breeze Airways 2024: Path to Profitability
The path to profitability began in March 2024, coinciding with the airline’s approach to its third anniversary. That month marked an important moment, with the carrier reporting a 30% year-over-year unit revenue increase. In fact, it generated more scheduled service revenue than the entire first quarter of 2023.
The momentum continued with another profitable month in April, setting the stage for significant expansion.
Throughout 2024, Breeze aggressively expanded its network, adding 29 new destinations and increasing available seat miles by more than 52%. By December 2024, the airline operated 220 nonstop routes, with an extraordinary 87% of these routes being exclusively served by Breeze.
Breeze Airways Founder and CEO David Neeleman pointed out the company’s distinctive approach. “In under four years, we’ve grown at an unprecedented rate, establishing a robust presence in underserved markets. Our ‘Nice Low-Cost Carrier’ model is not just working—it’s thriving.”

Strategic Focus on Secondary Airports
The airline’s success stems from its strategic focus on secondary airports typically overlooked by major carriers. Breeze offers base fares averaging 44% lower than competitors, making air travel more accessible to a broader range of travelers.
Innovative fare options, including a la carte and bundled packages, coupled with traveler-friendly policies like free family seating and no change fees, have rapidly cultivated a loyal customer base.
Airbus A220 Operations
Breeze Airways has strategically deployed the Airbus A220-300 aircraft as a cornerstone of its operational strategy. In 2024, the airline added 13 new A220s to its fleet, bringing the total to 33 aircraft.
With an average aircraft utilization exceeding 10 hours—a 4% year-over-year improvement—Breeze operates one of the most efficient fleets in the industry.
Chief Commercial Officer Lukas Johnson highlighted the airline’s unique value proposition. “We offer direct service between underserved cities with a premium product people genuinely enjoy. Our ability to place aircraft where they’ll be most successful is what truly distinguishes Breeze in the market.”

Market Achievements
The financial performance is reflected in the airline’s market presence. By the end of 2024, Breeze had become the top carrier by destinations served in 24 of its 66 cities, a remarkable achievement for such a young airline.
Looking forward, Neeleman remains optimistic about Breeze’s future. “As we move into this exciting growth phase, including anticipated international service, we remain committed to operating the safest, most reliable operation in the industry,” he stated.
Chief Financial Officer Trent Porter added perspective to the company’s success. “Our vision was to make air travel nice again by combining efficiency, affordability, and exceptional customer experience. We’re achieving something few airlines manage at this stage—consistent growth and profitability.”

Summary
The airline’s trajectory represents a significant disruption in the air travel market. By focusing on underserved routes, maintaining a lean operational model, and prioritizing customer experience, Breeze has carved out a unique niche in the competitive airline industry.
Breeze Airways now continues to expand, with 90 firm aircraft orders and options for 30 more through 2028, marking it as an airline to watch in the coming year.
