Starting 5 November 2024, JetBlue flights will operate on a new nonstop route to Bonaire island from New York.
The confirmed start-up will see a direct service operate between New York’s John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK) and Bonaire, the captivating Dutch Caribbean island.
Flights are now scheduled to operate twice weekly on Tuesdays and Sundays from 5 November.
This route inauguration will make JetBlue the sole carrier offering a direct service on this route, opening up new possibilities for travelers seeking a tropical escape.
JetBlue to Bonaire: A Diver’s Paradise
Bonaire, famed for its crystal-clear waters and vibrant coral reefs teeming with marine life, has rightfully earned the nickname “diver’s paradise.”
This new JetBlue service signifies a “milestone partnership” according to Miles Mercera, CEO at Tourism Corporation Bonaire.
“The addition to JetBlue’s Caribbean network expands accessibility for travelers from the Northeast, allowing them to explore the natural beauty, rich culture, and unique character of our beloved island,” Mercera enthusiastically added.
While Bonaire already boasts a diverse portfolio of US airlines, JetBlue’s arrival adds another layer of convenience for visitors.
This new route caters to the ever-growing demand for Caribbean getaways, particularly those seeking pristine shores ideal for scuba diving and snorkeling.
Beyond its underwater wonders, Bonaire offers a flourishing culinary scene, along with a plethora of off-the-beaten-path adventures.
Connecting New York a ‘Pivotal Step’
“Connecting New York with Bonaire marks a pivotal step in our strategic growth and in raising awareness of all the island has to offer,” stated Maarten van der Scheer, CEO at Bonaire International Airport, last month.
This new service not only signifies JetBlue’s first flight to Bonaire but also provides an additional travel day for US visitors to explore the island.
The collaboration between Tourism Corporation Bonaire, the Public Entity of Bonaire, BONHATA (Bonaire Hotel and Tourism Association), and Bonaire International Airport has been instrumental in increasing airlift options to the destination.
Miles Mercera of Tourism Corporation Bonaire also expressed his enthusiasm for the direct service. “We are thrilled that travelers, both new and returning, will now have more options to discover the treasures of our Caribbean gem from this key US hub.”
The economic impact of these additional JetBlue flights is undeniable. Clark Abraham, Commissioner of Economy and Tourism, eagerly awaits JetBlue’s arrival.
“This year has brought exciting developments to Bonaire,” Abraham remarked. “From new restaurants and renovated accommodations to exciting nature adventures and tours.”
“We’re showcasing these alongside our unwavering commitment to sustainability, local culture, and preserving our pristine natural environment.”
Veroesjka de Windt, CEO at BONHATA, echoed the sentiment, highlighting the collaborative effort. “This milestone underscores the dedication of both public and private sectors on the island to elevate our tourism industry and strengthen the economy,” de Windt said.
“With JetBlue’s arrival, we anticipate a significant positive shift, but the real work continues. We embrace the promising future and work together to realize its full potential.”
