Birmingham Airport Evacuated Amid Suspicious Vehicle Report

Birmingham Airport (BHX) has been evacuated and all flights suspended this afternoon following reports of a suspicious vehicle.

Birmingham Airport (BHX) is currently being evacuated and all flight operations have been suspended the afternoon, Wednesday 23 October. The action follows a report of suspicious vehicle.

Authorities have not yet released specifics of the security incident. According to the West Midlands Police, the evacuation is a precautionary measure to ensure the safety of passengers and staff.

A Birmingham Airport spokesperson said: “West Midlands Police is currently dealing with an ongoing incident on-site. “Airport operations are currently impacted, and passengers should not come to the airport at this time.

“The Airport’s social channels will be updated as and when the situation changes. “For passengers with immediate flights this afternoon they should contact their airline and check the Airport’s website for updates.”

Emergency Service Attendance & Disruptions

West Midlands Fire Service announced on social media that they were notified around 12:20 PM today. The Fire Service posted a brief statement at 15:00 local time. “We were notified of an ongoing incident at Birmingham Airport. Two officers are currently on site, working closely with police, ambulance, and airport staff. Local resources are on standby, ready to provide additional support if needed.”

The security incident has led to interruptions in bus service. Services have been unable to stop at terminals or at the international station.

Birmingham Airport has now reopened following an evacuation and flight suspensions earlier this afternoon. A Birmingham Airport spokesperson issued a brief statement. “Following a police investigation, some passengers were evacuated and we had to suspend departing flights for a couple of hours. That investigation has now concluded, and operations will slowly be returning to normal.
