Binter, a cornerstone of air travel in the Canary Islands, has announced a significant fleet modernization initiative.

The airline has placed a firm order for four brand-new ATR 72-600 aircraft, powered by the cutting-edge PW127XT engines, with an option for five additional aircraft. These aircraft will replace the carrier’s four existing ATR 72-600 aircraft.

This strategic upgrade, revealed at ATR’s 2024 results press conference, furthers the long-standing partnership between the two companies. It also marks the first orders for replacement ATR -600 aircraft.

Binter History with ATR

Mr. Rodolfo Núñez, President of Binter commented on the strategic upgrade. “Our investment in these brand new ATR 72-600 underscores our dedication to ensuring the utmost comfort and reliability for the communities we serve.”

“With the remarkable efficiency of the PW127XT engines, uniquely optimized for ATR’s turboprops, we are embracing new standards in fuel consumption, CO2 emissions, and operating costs, setting a benchmark for responsible aviation practices.”

Binter’s reliance on ATR aircraft is deeply rooted in the airline’s history. Since receiving its first ATR 72-200 in 1989, the airline has consistently provided efficient and comfortable air travel from its Gran Canaria hub.

This longstanding relationship reflects a shared vision for regional connectivity. It also highlights the vital role turboprops play in linking the Canary Islands.

Currently operating a fleet of 26 ATR 72-600s, Binter carries over 5 million passengers annually, facilitating approximately 210 daily flights across the picturesque archipelago.

These flights provide a lifeline for the local communities, connecting islands, fostering trade, and promoting economic growth and social cohesion. Binter’s network effectively weaves together the islands, ensuring streamlined travel and strengthening the bonds between communities.

The Move to the PW127XT Engine

The decision to incorporate the latest PW127XT engines into its fleet represents a significant step forward for Binter. These engines offer substantial improvements in fuel efficiency, resulting in lower operating costs and reduced CO2 emissions.

This commitment to sustainable aviation aligns with growing industry and public awareness of environmental impact. The PW127XT engine has been specifically designed and optimized for ATR aircraft, maximizing its performance and efficiency.

This translates to significant benefits for Binter, allowing them to maintain competitive fares while minimizing their environmental footprint.

The new ATR 72-600s will not only benefit the environment but also enhance the passenger experience. These modern aircraft offer improved cabin comfort, quieter operation, and advanced technology, ensuring a more enjoyable journey for Binter’s passengers.
