Belfast City Airport has been closed to traffic after a hard landing involving an Aer Lingus ATR 72-600 on Sunday afternoon 22 December 2024.

An Aer Lingus Regional ATR 72-600 arriving from Edinburgh during conditions of strong gusty winds suffered the nose gear collapse during its landing at Belfast City Airport.

Landing Accident Belfast City Airport

The aircraft, an ATR 72-900 twin-engine turboprop registered G-CMMK, was conducting a repositioning flight from Edinburgh Airport (EDI).

On arrival in Belfast, the aircraft had been cleared to make an approach to runway 04 Belfast City Airport (BHD).

The aircraft appears to have touched down nosegear first, which resulted in the nose gear assembly collapsing during the landing roll. Following the touchdown event, the aircraft was brought to a stop towards the right-hand edge of the active runway.

No injuries were reported as a result of the landing accident. The aircraft appears to have sustained substantial damage as a result of the heavy landing.

The airport was closed to traffic for the rest of the day following the Aer Lingus accident, which occurred at 1606 local time.
