CDB Aviation, a leading global aircraft lessor, has secured a significant new partnership with Azerbaijan Airlines (AZAL), the national carrier of Azerbaijan with an arrangement for 2 Airbus A320neo aircraft.
The agreement involves the lease of two Airbus A320neo aircraft, scheduled for delivery in June and July 2025.
This acquisition marks the initial phase of the Azerbaijan flag carrier’s fleet renewal program.
About Azerbaijan Airlines
Azerbaijan Airlines (AZAL), established in 1992, is the flag carrier and largest airline of Azerbaijan. Headquartered in Baku, the airline operates a network of over 55 destinations across Asia, Europe, and North America.
AZAL boasts a modern fleet consisting of Airbus, Boeing, and Embraer aircraft, including the world’s last operational Airbus A340-500s.
The airline is always working to expand its route network – in addition to many regular routes, the carrier often opens new seasonal and charter routes.
AZAL has aircraft orders for eight Boeing 787-9s starting 2026 and Airbus NEOs starting 2028, mainly as replacements.
Strengthening Presence in Azerbaijan
This transaction marks CDB Aviation’s first foray into the Azerbaijan market, solidifying their presence in the CIS region.
The A320neo aircraft, known for their fuel efficiency and modern design, align perfectly with AZAL’s fleet modernization strategy.
These new additions will contribute to AZAL’s commitment to environmental sustainability by reducing fuel consumption and emissions.
“This partnership with AZAL represents a major milestone for CDB Aviation,” said Jie Chen, Chief Executive Officer of CDB Aviation.
“Not only does it mark our entry into the Azerbaijani market, but it also welcomes a valued new customer to our growing regional portfolio.”
“We are confident that the A320neo family aircraft will be instrumental in supporting AZAL’s sustainable growth strategy, while offering passengers an enhanced travel experience with superior comfort.”
Commencement of Fleet Renewal Program
Samir Rzayev, President of AZAL, echoed Chen’s enthusiasm. “The signing of these lease agreements represents the initial phase of our comprehensive fleet renewal program. This focuses on acquiring the most advanced aircraft with modern interiors.”
“We are confident that our passengers will appreciate the increased comfort and improved travel experience offered by the A320neo cabin.”
“We are pleased to partner with CDB Aviation and look forward to taking delivery of these Airbus aircraft in the summer of 2025.”
The A320neo family is known for its spacious cabins, innovative passenger seating arrangements, and improved in-flight entertainment systems.
These features will undoubtedly enhance the travel experience for AZAL passengers, making their journeys more comfortable and enjoyable.

Both Chen and Rzayev expressed gratitude to their respective teams for their exceptional collaboration and dedication in bringing this agreement to fruition.
This successful partnership demonstrates the commitment of both CDB Aviation and Azerbaijan Airlines to innovation, sustainability, and passenger satisfaction.
