Avianca is growing its Americas and Caribbean network with the addition of further US destinations. The airline has announced the launch of four new direct routes.

There are: Tampa to Bogotá, Fort Lauderdale to Medellín, Miami to San José (Costa Rica), and San Juan to San José (Costa Rica).

These additions open up fresh opportunities for people to travel between the United States, the Caribbean, and Latin America.

New Route Breakdown

With Tampa now joining Avianca’s U.S. destinations and expanded links in Puerto Rico and beyond, the airline is making travel smoother for business, tourism, and global connections.

The new routes will run on Airbus A320 aircraft, each seating up to 180 passengers. Together, they offer 8,000 weekly seats.

Here’s the breakdown: Tampa to Bogotá provides 1,440 seats per week. Fort Lauderdale to Medellín and Miami to San José both offer 2,520 seats.

Finally, San Juan to San José features three weekly flights connecting Puerto Rico to Costa Rica.

Frederico Pedreira, Avianca’s CEO, shared his excitement about the expansion. “Last year, we carried over 38 million passengers to local and international spots. We built the biggest route network in our history.”

“In 2025, we’re focused on giving our customers even better access and connections. With these new routes from Tampa, Fort Lauderdale, and Miami, we now operate 43 direct flights linking the U.S. to the Americas. This helps millions travel across regions and welcomes tourists to the U.S.”

Tampa: A Historic First

Tampa, a key city in Florida, marks a historic first for Avianca with this new route to Bogotá. Travelers from Tampa can now reach over 80 destinations in the Americas and Europe through Bogotá’s hub.

Joe Lopano, CEO of Tampa International Airport (TPA), celebrated the milestone. “TPA has hit a big goal by connecting Tampa Bay to Bogotá.”

“Thanks to Avianca, we now offer nonstop flights to South America for the first time. This gives our community unmatched access to Colombia and beyond. I’m thankful to Avianca and our local partners for making this dream come true.”

The Tampa-Bogotá route strengthens ties between Colombia and the U.S. Carmen Caballero, President of ProColombia, highlighted its impact.

“This new route builds a stronger link for business, tourism, and culture. With tourism booming and connections growing, it’s an open invitation for Florida’s west coast to explore Colombia, known as The Country of Beauty.”

Connections from Bogotá

From Bogotá, passengers can easily reach 25 domestic spots in Colombia. This opens the door to cities like Medellín, Cartagena, Cali, Quibdó, San Andrés, and Leticia. Essentially, it covers every corner of the country.

Whether you’re planning a business trip, a vacation, or a visit to family, Avianca’s expanded network makes it simpler to get where you’re going.

These new routes highlight Avianca’s determination to connect people and places, even as air travel faces disruptions in 2025. With delays, cancellations, and staffing shortages plaguing the industry, travelers crave reliable options.

Avianca’s added flights, seats, and destinations step up to meet that demand. Meanwhile, the U.S. geopolitical climate—marked by shifting policies and trade tensions—adds complexity to international travel.

Yet, whether you’re flying from Tampa, Fort Lauderdale, Miami, or San Juan, Avianca provides a steady link to the Americas and the Caribbean.
