A significant expansion in air travel connectivity is set to commence this summer, as Avelo Airlines introduces a new, direct route to the Bahamas.
The new service will operate between Lynden Pindling International Airport (NAS) in Nassau, and Raleigh-Durham International Airport (RDU) in North Carolina.
This strategic move marks a pivotal development in bolstering tourism and fostering stronger ties between these two vibrant destinations.
Operational Details and Schedule
Avelo Airlines, a prominent American ultra-low-cost carrier, will initiate bi-weekly flights on this new route, operating on Wednesdays and Saturdays.
The inaugural flight is scheduled for June 11th, offering travelers convenient scheduling options for both weekend getaways and mid-week excursions.
This consistent schedule aims to cater to both leisure and business travelers seeking efficient and affordable travel solutions.

Importance for Bahamian Tourism
The introduction of this new service has been met with enthusiasm from Bahamian officials. The Hon. I. Chester Cooper, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Tourism, Investments & Aviation, emphasized the government’s commitment to strategic partnerships with airlines. “We are excited to welcome this new service from Avelo Airlines.”
“As a tourism and aviation destination leader, this service further affirms The Bahamas Government’s commitment to working closely with airline partners. It works with industry stakeholders to aggressively grow air stopover arrivals throughout The Islands of The Bahamas.”
This initiative aligns with the nation’s broader strategy to enhance air connectivity and drive tourism growth. Latia Duncombe, Director General of Tourism, reiterated the significance of this development, highlighting North Carolina as a key market.
“Expanding airlift remains a top priority for The Bahamas. This new route strengthens our access from North Carolina—an important market for our destination.”
“Avelo Airlines offers new non-stop service, making it even easier for travelers from Raleigh-Durham to experience our vibrant culture, world-class hospitality, and breathtaking islands. We look forward to welcoming more visitors and creating unforgettable Bahamian experiences.”

Avelo Airlines’ Expansion and Regional Impact
Avelo Airlines, headquartered in Houston, Texas, has been strategically expanding its network. Since commencing operations at RDU in 2022, it has seen recent forays into the Caribbean market.
This new Nassau route builds upon the existing foundation laid by Bahamasair’s nonstop service to Freeport and onward to Nassau. This has effectively stimulated travel demand from the RDU region over the past two years.
The introduction of Avelo’s service is expected to further democratize travel. It provides more affordable options for North Carolina residents seeking to experience the unparalleled beauty and hospitality of The Bahamas.
Since its launch in April 2021, Avelo has successfully transported over 6.3 million passengers on nearly 50,000 flights. This demonstrates its growing influence in the aviation industry.
The Bahamas represents a significant addition to its expanding portfolio of international destinations.

The Allure of The Bahamas
The Bahamas, comprising over 700 islands and cays across 16 unique island destinations, offers a diverse range of experiences for travelers. Its proximity to the Florida coast, just 50 miles away, makes it an easily accessible escape.
The archipelago is renowned for its world-class fishing, diving, and boating opportunities, as well as its pristine beaches that cater to families, couples, and adventure seekers alike.
The new Avelo Airlines Bahamas route will foster a robust influx of visitors and strengthening the economic ties between North Carolina and The Bahamas.
This new route is a welcome addition to the aviation industry and will be a great benefit to both the islands of the Bahamas and the residents of Raleigh-Durham.
