Avelo Airlines will significantly boost air travel connectivity in Connecticut, announcing an ambitious expansion that introduces five new nonstop routes.
This strategic growth demonstrates Avelo’s aggressive approach to providing affordable and convenient air service in the region.
Comprehensive Route Expansion
The new route portfolio includes four fresh nonstop destinations from Southern Connecticut’s Tweed-New Haven Airport (HVN).
The fifth route will be an international addition from Hartford’s Bradley International Airport (BDL). Starting in February 2025, travelers will gain access to new routes that dramatically increase their travel options.
New Domestic Routes
From Tweed-New Haven, Avelo will launch services to Jacksonville, Florida, connecting Connecticut residents to a vibrant Southeastern destination perfect for winter getaways and beach vacations.
The Dallas-Fort Worth route opens up extensive opportunities for travelers seeking to explore Texas, with convenient twice-weekly flights on Fridays and Mondays.
The Detroit route, launching as a seasonal service, provides Midwestern connectivity, while the Portland, Maine route offers a charming New England destination accessible through seasonal Thursday and Sunday flights.
International Service: Punta Cana
The international expansion continues with the addition of Punta Cana, Dominican Republic, as Avelo’s third international destination from Bradley International Airport.
This service will complement existing routes to Cancun, Mexico, and Montego Bay, Jamaica, further establishing Avelo as a key player in Caribbean travel.
Strategic Operational Investment
Avelo’s network expansion will be supported by substantial operational investments in Connecticut’s aviation infrastructure.
In January, the company will position a seventh Boeing Next Generation 737-800 aircraft at Tweed-New Haven Airport. This brings the total dedicated aircraft to eight. Half of Avelo’s entire 20-aircraft fleet will now be concentrated on Connecticut routes, signaling a strong commitment to the state.
The New Haven base remains the centerpiece of Avelo’s Connecticut operations. Employing nearly 300 crewmembers, this hub supports nine aircraft serving 31 nonstop destinations.
Having recently celebrated three years of service, the base has already transported an impressive 2.8 million customers on over 20,000 flights, demonstrating remarkable growth and reliability.
Avelo Airlines Leadership Comments
Avelo Airlines Founder and CEO Andrew Levy offered his thoughts on the proposed expansion. “We love Connecticut and are excited to continue growing our presence here. With 39 route choices, Avelo offers Connecticut travelers more options, affordability, and convenience than any other airline operating in the state.”
Levy’s vision lies in making air travel more accessible and enjoyable. The airline’s commitment to industry-leading reliability and customer service has been a key driver of its success. It has progressively built trust with nearly 3 million customers since launching in the state.
Passengers can take advantage of low introductory one-way fares starting at just $39, available through the airline’s website. These competitive pricing strategies, combined with an expanding route network, make air travel more attainable for Connecticut residents.
Looking Ahead
As Avelo Airlines continues to grow and innovate, its substantial investment in Connecticut signals a promising future for regional air travel. By prioritizing customer needs, maintaining competitive pricing, and consistently expanding route offerings, Avelo is a catalyst for connectivity and economic opportunity in the region.
The new routes promise to transform travel experiences. It makes destinations once considered challenging to reach now easily accessible for Connecticut’s residents.
