Bradley International Airport (BDL) has welcomed Avelo Airlines as it launches its newest operational base. The airline kicked off service with four new domestic routes, with three additional routes scheduled to begin next week.
Founded in 2021, Avelo Airlines has quickly established itself as America’s newest ultra-low-cost carrier,. It maintains a focus on bringing convenient, affordable air service to underserved markets.
The airline’s business model emphasizes point-to-point routes, bypassing major hubs to offer travelers more direct connections to their destinations.
Avelo Airlines Dual-Base Strategy
The expansion establishes a dual-base strategy in Connecticut, complementing Avelo’s existing New Haven operations.
With two aircraft initially stationed at Bradley, this move strengthens the airline’s commitment to providing accessible air travel throughout the state. The airline exclusively operates a fleet of Boeing Next-Generation 737 aircraft, known for their reliability and fuel efficiency.
The inaugural flights from Bradley connect travelers to North Carolina destinations, including Charlotte/Concord (USA) and Wilmington (ILM).
Florida routes to Daytona Beach (DAB) and Orlando/Lakeland (LAL) take off today, with flights operating twice weekly.
Avelo’s signature low fares include all government taxes and fees, and travelers can customize their experience with optional services for additional fees.
New Route Additions Planned
The airline’s growth continues next week with new services to Houston, Texas (HOU) and its first international destinations: Cancun, Mexico (CUN) and Montego Bay, Jamaica (MBJ).
These international routes mark a significant milestone in Avelo’s expansion strategy. It signals the carrier’s evolution from a domestic-only airline to an international operator.
“Avelo is proud to be Connecticut’s Airline,” shares Andrew Levy, Avelo Airlines Founder and CEO. With extensive industry experience, including roles at United Airlines and Allegiant Travel Company, Levy has positioned Avelo to capitalize on market opportunities while maintaining operational efficiency.
“Our customers consistently express their satisfaction with our service, and we’re thrilled to enhance convenience across the state. With 29 nonstop destinations, including two popular international locations, Connecticut travelers now enjoy unprecedented connectivity.”
“Our expansion at BDL reflects the tremendous support we’ve received statewide. Thanks to backing from government, community, and business leaders throughout Connecticut, combined with three straight profitable quarters, we’re positioned for continued expansion.”
Bradley’s Rising Prominence
Connecticut Governor Ned Lamont emphasizes Bradley’s rising prominence. “Recent years have seen Bradley implement significant improvements, earning recognition from leading travel analysts as one of the nation’s top airports.”
“Avelo Airlines’ arrival further cements Bradley’s status as the Northeast’s most convenient airport. We’re excited to support Avelo’s ongoing growth in Connecticut.”
The addition of Avelo’s service at Bradley International Airport represents a significant boost to Connecticut’s transportation infrastructure. It provides residents with more travel options while potentially stimulating local economic growth through increased tourism and business connectivity.
Operating a fleet of 20 Boeing Next-Generation 737 aircraft, Avelo currently serves 49 popular destinations across the United States, Jamaica and Mexico.
