Avelo Airlines is significantly expanding its presence in North Carolina by establishing two new operational bases. The new facilities are to be located at Concord-Padgett Regional Airport in Charlotte and Wilmington International Airport.
The airline’s strategic regional growth includes launching five new routes from these airports and introducing its first two international routes at Raleigh-Durham International Airport (RDU).
With these additions, Avelo will now offer 27 nonstop routes across North Carolina. The airline is also introducing three new routes connecting Nashville, Tennessee to Rochester, New York and the Philadelphia/Delaware Valley. It will also link Boston and Manchester, New Hampshire to Myrtle Beach, South Carolina.
Route Launches in 2025
Set to launch in 2025, these 10 new routes will be operated using Boeing Next-Generation 737 aircraft. The announcement was celebrated with festive events in Charlotte, Raleigh/Durham, and Wilmington on Wednesday 4 December. These were attended by Avelo leadership, airport administrators, community leaders, and media representatives.
Avelo Airlines Founder and CEO Andrew Levy was pleased with the expansion, stating, “Our North Carolina customers have embraced Avelo since our arrival two years ago. These 27 nonstop destinations are just the beginning.”
“By establishing bases in Charlotte and Wilmington and expanding internationally at RDU, we’re bringing more affordable, convenient, and reliable travel options to more destinations.”
New Base Openings
The Charlotte base will open on March 6, 2025, initially deploying one Boeing 737 and expanding to two aircraft by April 2025.
Similarly, the Wilmington base will launch on April 3, 2025, starting with one Boeing 737, with plans to add a second aircraft later in the year. Avelo’s RDU base, established in February 2023, currently employs nearly 100 crew members.
The expansion is expected to create up to 100 new jobs across various roles. These include airport customer service, flight attendants, pilots, aircraft technical operations, maintenance, and supervisory positions. These roles will be distributed between Avelo’s direct workforce and business partners operating at the new airport locations.
Levy added, “We appreciate the warm reception and are grateful to our customers who have trusted Avelo with their air travel in North Carolina. This expansion means more choices for travelers across the East Coast and beyond.”
