A Qatar Airways Airbus A350-1000 bound for Auckland, New Zealand diverted to Male, Maldives after reporting an engine problem on 6 December 2024.
Qatar Airways flight QR920, operated by an Airbus A350-1000, had departed from Doha Hamad International Airport (DOH). The aircraft was conducting a scheduled service to Auckland Airport (AKL).

Whilst in cruising flight near the Maldives, flight crew reported experiencing a minor technical problem with one engine. As a result, they elected to conduct a precautionary diversion to nearby Male International Airport (MLE).
The flight landed on runway 36 Male International Airport without further incident, just over 30 minutes after the diversion was initiated.
According to the online source Aviation Herald, passengers aboard the aircraft reported that the crew had announced a minor technical problem. The left-hand engine was inspected after landing at the diversion airport.
The airline mustered a replacement aircraft to carry out the onwards flight from Male to Auckland Airport.

Flight data shows that Qatar Airways flight QR920 had departed from Hamad International Airport at 0236 local time on 6 December 2024. The flight had then set course normally, climbing to flight level FL330 for the scheduled service to New Zealand.
The aircraft was established on flight plan track to the south-east of Male when the precautionary diversion was carried out.
The aircraft conducting the QR920 rotation to Auckland was an Airbus A350-1000, registered A7-ANP. This is a 4.9 year old wide-body aircraft belonging to the carrier Qatar Airways. It has been in operational service with the airline since its initial delivery from the factory in February 2020.
