An Aerolíneas Argentinas Boeing 737-800 operating a service from Ushuaia lost a main gear wheel on landing at Buenos Aires on 23 September 2024.
Aerolíneas Argentinas flight AR1881 was conducting an arrival from Ushuaia Malvinas Argentinas International Airport (USH). During the landing on runway 13 Aeroparque Internacional Jorge Newbery (AEP), the aircraft’s outboard left-hand main wheel detached completely.

The aircraft was subsequently able to taxi clear of the active runway before coming to a stop. The Argentinian aviation regulator JST dispatched an investigation team to the Buenos Aires airport to investigate the incident.

Flight data shows that the flight AR1881 made an on-time departure out of Ushuaia Malvinas Argentinas International Airport at 1436 local time on 23 September.
The flight had proceeded normally, climbing to flight level FL370 (37,000 feet) before the north-easterly service to Buenos Aires, Argentina.
Descent and approach procedures were similarly conducted normally. The outboard wheel appeared to detach from the left hand main landing gear assembly at a point in the aircraft’s landing on runway 13.
The aircraft conducting the AR1881 service from Ushuaia was a Boeing 737-800, registered LV-CXT. This is a 12.1 year old narrowbody aircraft belonging to the carrier Aerolíneas Argentinas. It has been an operational service with the airline since its initial delivery from the factory in September 2012.
Aerolíneas Argentinas is the state-owned flag carrier of Argentina and the country’s largest airline. Founded in 1950, it is headquartered in Buenos Aires.
