Argentinas 737-800 Cargo Fire Indication at Buenos Aires

Aerolíneas Argentinas flight AR1638, a Boeing 737-800 bound for Neuquen diverted to Ezeiza Airport after crew noted a cargo fire indication on 1 June.

An Aerolíneas Argentinas flight operating from Buenos Aires Aeroparque diverted to nearby Azeiza Airport shortly after takeoff on 1 June 2024.

Aerolíneas Argentinas flight AR1638, a Boeing 737-800 bound for Neuquen terminated the flight shortly after takeoff when flight crew received a cargo hold fire indication.

The flight was on climb and had just passed above 10,000 feet when the incident occurred. On noting the fire warning, flight crew terminated the climb and initiated a diversion to nearby Ezeiza Airport.

The aircraft landed at the diversion airport without further incident less than 20 minutes after the initial departure. The fire indication was reportedly a false alarm and no fire was evident.

Flight data shows that Argentinas flight AR1638 departed Buenos Aires Jorge Newbery Airfield (AEP), commonly known as Aeroparque, at 0620 local time.

Shortly after departure, flight crew terminated the climb approaching FL130 (13,000 feet) before making an immediate descent for an approach to Ministro Pistarini International Airport (Ezeiza Airport).

The flight crew did not declare a formal emergency and continue to the diversion airport under normal operation procedures. The landing was then effected at 0639 local time, just 19 minutes after initial departure.

The aircraft conducting regional flight AR1638 was a Boeing 737-800, registered LV-FVN. This is a 9.2 year old narrowbody aircraft belonging to the carrier Aerolíneas Argentinas.

It has been in operational service with the airline since its initial delivery in April 2015.

Aerolíneas Argentinas, formally Aerolíneas Argentinas S.A., is the state-owned flag carrier of Argentina and the country’s largest airline. It was founded in 1950 in Buenos Aires, Argentina.

The carrier has a fleet of over 70 aircraft, including Boeing 737s, Airbus A330s, and Embraer E190s. It currently operates to over 35 destinations in Argentina, South America, North America, Europe, and Oceania.
