Information has emerged of yet another Malaysia Airlines Airbus A330 suffering an engine problem, with this one taking place in Alice Springs.

Such details have been released pertinent to this, which we will get into in this article.

Malaysia Airlines Flight MH128 – Melbourne to Kuala Lumpur: Alice Springs Diversion…


Information has emerged of yet another Malaysia Airlines Airbus A330 suffering an engine problem, with this one taking place in Alice Springs.

Malaysia Airlines flight MH128, which suffered the engine problem in Alice Springs, is a routine scheduled flight between Melbourne & Kuala Lumpur.

Furthermore, it is understood the aircraft involved was 9M-MTJ.

As per data from Planespotters.net, 9M-MTJ is a 12.0 year old Airbus A330-300 that was delivered to the airline in September 2012.

Of the A330-300 variant, Malaysia Airlines has 15 of them in their fleet.

Also, within that 15, all but two are in active service, with an average fleet age of 12.2 years.

As well as the A330-300 variant, the airline has the following other aircraft in their fleet:

  • 9 Airbus A330-200s.
  • 7 Airbus A350s.
  • 46 Boeing 737 Family aircraft.

Malaysia Airlines flight MH128, which diverted to Alice Springs, departed Melbourne at 2320 local time on August 19 and tracked north-west towards Kuala Lumpur.

To the north-east of Alice Springs, the aircraft made a u-turn and commenced a descent amid engine problems, as per The Aviation Herald.

The aircraft landed safely without further incident at 0435 local time.

The August 19 incident of Malaysia Airlines flight MH128 Melbourne-Kuala Lumpur in Alice Springs was the first of two incidents that happened in 24 hours.

Incident #2 was Malaysia Airlines flight MH386 between Kuala Lumpur & Shanghai, which happened on August 20.

Malaysia Airlines flight MH386, which declared the emergency, departed Kuala Lumpur at 2114 local time.

The aircraft initially climbed out towards Shanghai before declaring 7700 and turning back.

It is understood the cause of the emergency was due to engine problems also.

At this stage, it appears to be coincidental that the two engine incidents in two days have occurred.

Moreover, there is no information to suggest this is a wider problem currently.

As soon as we have more details pertinent to this, then we will update you accordingly.
