LONDON – Using data from RadarBox.com, let’s take a look at which airports in the United States are the busiest right now as Summer 2022 progresses.
We will look at some of the airports that RadarBox tracks through Airport Movement Statistics to determine which airports are the busiest in the country.
So without further ado, let’s get into it:
San Francisco Airport – #10
San Francisco Airport comes in at #10 with a rolling daily average of 951 movements as of July 4. This is a 24.64% increase compared to the same period last year.
New York’s Newark – #9
Newark comes in at #9 with around 1,077 movements based on the rolling average. This is a 38.25% increase compared to the same period last year.
New York’s LaGuardia – #8
LaGuardia only just jumps into the #8 space with 1,080 movements recorded. This is a 120.41% increase compared to the same period last year.
Las Vegas McCarran International Airport – #7
Las Vegas’ McCarran International Airport gets the #7 spot with 1,174 movements. This is a 12.78% increase compared to the same period last year.
New York’s John F Kennedy International Airport – #6
JFK gets the #6 spot with 1,265 movements recorded. This is a 38.71% increase compared to the same period last year and is nearly there to pre-pandemic recovery.
Los Angeles International Airport – #5
Los Angeles International Airport gets the #5 spot with 1,491 movements. This number is actually 3.18% less than the same period last year and isn’t that close yet to pre-pandemic levels.
Denver International Airport – #4
Denver gets into the top 4 spot with 1,708 movements recorded. This is down by 6.36% compared to the same period last year and is around 202 movements from COVID recovery.
Dallas Fort-Worth International Airport – #3
Dallas Fort-Worth takes the podium in third place with 1,770 movements, which is around 6.74% less compared to the same period last year and is under 300 movements away from recovery.
Atlanta Hartsfield International Airport – #2
Our runner-up is Atlanta Hartsfield International Airport with 1,811 movements, which is 10.92% less than the same period last year. However, more work is needed to get itself back up to the 2019 number of 2,645 movements.
Chicago O’Hare International Airport – #1
The busiest on the list is Chicago O’Hare International Airport with 2,020 movements. This figure is down about 9.98% compared to the same period last year. Like with Atlanta, still a lot of work to do to get into the 2,600s and above.
Chicago and Atlanta will no doubt continue to battle over the #1 spot, and as the Summer 2022 season continues, we can expect to see their numbers increase.
This could definitely go up to the 2,100-2,300s within a matter of weeks and months, especially when additional capacity is added by the airlines.
And that is that. Congratulations to Chicago O’Hare. We will come back to this list in the next few weeks, so be sure to look out for a follow-up piece regarding this!
