American Airlines and AT&T, two legendary American companies known for linking people with what matters most, are set to upgrade air travel.

Starting in January 2026, they will provide free inflight Wi-Fi on over 2 million American Airlines flights annually. This initiative aims to keep passengers connected in the skies, whether for work, socializing, or entertainment.

The complimentary Wi-Fi, powered by Viasat and Intelsat, will be exclusive to members of American Airlines’ AAdvantage® loyalty program.

This move makes American the leader in offering free inflight connectivity on more planes than any other U.S. airline, with AT&T as the supporting sponsor.

The Move to Free WiFi

Staying connected during flights is a top priority for travelers says Heather Garboden, American Airlines’ Chief Customer Officer.

“Our customers love the ability to message friends, handle work, browse social media, or stream their favorite shows while flying,” she said. “We’ve worked hard to equip our planes with top-notch, high-speed Wi-Fi. Partnering with AT&T allows us to offer this service free to our loyal AAdvantage members.”

From January 2026, free Wi-Fi will be available on all American Airlines planes equipped with Viasat and Intelsat satellite technology, covering about 90% of its fleet. To ensure a smooth rollout, American tested free Wi-Fi on select routes.

The results exceeded expectations, proving the service’s reliability. The airline is also upgrading over 500 regional jets with high-speed Wi-Fi by the end of 2025, just in time for the launch.

AT&T’s Role in Connectivity

AT&T, a leader in communication, sees this partnership as a way to enhance lives through connectivity. “People want to stay connected everywhere, all the time,” said Jenifer Robertson, EVP & GM Mass Markets at AT&T.

“Whether it’s keeping in touch with loved ones, following sports, or watching trending shows, connectivity opens up endless possibilities. We’re thrilled to work with American Airlines to keep passengers connected, even at 30,000 feet.”

This collaboration reflects a shared vision of innovation. Both companies, based in Texas, have a history of pushing boundaries. American Airlines has long relied on AT&T for its business communication needs, making this partnership a natural fit.

American Airlines recently appointed Heather Garboden as Chief Customer Officer, signaling a stronger focus on improving the travel experience.

From easier booking to better boarding processes and now free Wi-Fi, the airline is committed to making every journey exceptional.

“This partnership is perfect,” Garboden added. “Two iconic brands, both dedicated to innovation and connection, are coming together to elevate the inflight experience.”

The free Wi-Fi perk is the latest benefit for AAdvantage members. This award-winning loyalty program offers more ways to earn status and redeem miles than any other airline program, making it a favorite among frequent flyers.
