American Airlines and Dallas Fort Worth International Airport (DFW) have announced an ambitious expansion of Terminal F, designed to fuel growth and enhance the passenger experience.
This transformative project will double the number of gates, introduce modern facilities, and elevate DFW’s status as a global aviation hub.
With a $4 billion investment, the initiative accelerates construction to deliver cutting-edge amenities sooner, ensuring North Texas remains a powerhouse for air travel.
DFW Terminal F Upgrades
Terminal F will redefine convenience and comfort for travelers. The terminal, fully operated by American Airlines, will feature a sleek design with advanced technology and premium services. Key highlights include:
Expanded Gate Capacity: Twice as many gates to accommodate growing passenger demand.
International Operations Hub: New facilities tailored for widebody aircraft and streamlined international flight processing.
Improved Amenities: More lounge spaces, premium retail, diverse dining options, and captivating public art installations.
Improved Connectivity: A walking connection to Terminal D and a new Skylink station for easy access across DFW’s terminals.
Innovative Check-In Process: A dedicated parking garage with curbside circulation and a reimagined baggage drop area to speed up check-in and security.
These upgrades aim to provide a smooth and trouble-free check-in experience for passengers while boosting operational efficiency for American Airlines.

Growth at American’s Key Hub
The Terminal F project strengthens the long-standing partnership between American Airlines and DFW Airport. The agreement extends American’s Use and Lease Agreement with DFW through 2043, ensuring stability and cost predictability. This commitment supports DFW’s goal of becoming the world’s largest airline hub.
“DFW is American’s largest and most vital hub,” said Robert Isom, CEO of American Airlines. “With Terminal F, we’re setting the stage for DFW to lead globally. This modern facility will elevate the customer experience with state-of-the-art features.”
“We’re thrilled to partner with Dallas Mayor Johnson, Fort Worth Mayor Parker, the DFW Airport Board, and CEO Sean Donohue to drive North Texas’ growth.”
The original plan, outlined in a 2023 agreement, envisioned Terminal F as a 15-gate facility accessible via Skylink from Terminal E.
However, with North Texas’ booming population and economy, the expanded vision responds to surging travel demand. The first phase of Terminal F is on track to open in 2027, with enhanced features rolling out shortly after.

Economic Impact and Community Support
DFW Airport, the third-busiest airport globally, is a cornerstone of North Texas’ economy. The Terminal F expansion underscores its role as an economic engine, fostering job creation and business opportunities. Local leaders have rallied behind the project, recognizing its potential to elevate the region’s global standing.
“Dallas is proud to see DFW Airport grow with Terminal F,” said Dallas Mayor Eric L. Johnson. “This investment by American Airlines strengthens our position as a premier international city, boosting our economy and connectivity.”
Fort Worth Mayor Mattie Parker added comment. “American Airlines’ commitment to DFW ensures our region is ready for historic growth. This project solidifies Fort Worth’s role in the airport’s success.”
DeMetris Sampson, Chair of the DFW Board of Directors, emphasized the community benefits. “DFW’s growth creates opportunities for local businesses. This investment secures the airport’s sustainability for decades.”
DFW CEO Sean Donohue highlighted the airport’s remarkable trajectory.“In a decade, DFW’s passenger traffic has surged by 50%, surpassing all expectations. Our partnership with American Airlines keeps us competitive, supporting North Texas’ economic boom.”

Looking Ahead
The Terminal F expansion positions DFW and American Airlines for long-term success. By prioritizing passenger comfort, operational efficiency, and regional growth, this project sets a new standard for airport innovation.
As construction progresses, travelers can look forward to a world-class experience that reflects North Texas’ dynamic spirit.
