American Airlines AA293 New Delhi-New York Declares Emergency

As well as the emergency on AA2131 in the last hour or so, American Airlines flight AA293 between Delhi and New York declared an emergency this morning and diverted to London Heathrow.

Information is limited surrounding this incident, but below is what we know on this so far.

American Airlines flight AA293, which declared an emergency this morning, is a routine scheduled flight between New Delhi & New York JFK.

Also, it is understood the aircraft involved in the incident was N719AN.

As per data from Planespotters.net, N719AN is a 11.6 year old Boeing 777-300ER that was delivered to the airline in January 2013.

Furthermore, of the 777-300ER variant, American Airlines has 20 of them in their fleet.

Within that 20, all of them are in active service, with an average fleet age of 10.5 years.

As well as the 777-300ER variant, American Airlines has the following other aircraft in their mainline fleet:

  • 133 Airbus A319s.
  • 48 Airbus A320s.
  • 298 Airbus A321s.
  • 303 Boeing 737-800s.
  • 62 737 MAX 8s.
  • 47 Boeing 777-200s.
  • 59 Boeing 787s.

American Airlines flight AA293, which declared the emergency, departed New Delhi at 0012 local time this morning and proceeded westbound to New York JFK.

To the west of Norway, the aircraft declared an emergency and proceeded to deviate south towards the UK.

From there, the information was then released that the aircraft would be diverting to London Heathrow.

The aircraft landed safely without further incident at 0607 local time this morning.

Reason Unclear For The 7700 At This Time…

At this stage, the reason for the emergency onboard American Airlines flight AA293 New Delhi-New York is unclear.

What we do know is that at the time of publication, the aircraft is still on the ground at London Heathrow.

With the aircraft on the ground for around eight hours, it could either be grounded, or is awaiting a slot still to continue to JFK.

As soon as we have more information pertinent to this incident, then we will update you accordingly.
