Flight AA293 declared the emergency en route, squawking transponder code 7700. The flight is currently diverting to the United Kingdom.

American Airlines AA293 declared a general emergency from the cruise whilst en route to the north of the United Kingdom.
The aircraft then initiated a diversion south to the UK. Flight crew initiated a direct diversion to London Heathrow (LHR).
The nature of the emergency prompting the unscheduled diversion is not yet known.

Flight data shows that flight crew transmitted the emergency transponder code 7700 at 04:08 UTC this morning, whilst in cruising flight at FL340 (34,000 feet).
The flight, originally bound for New York John F Kennedy International Airport (JFK), then diverted south and has hastened a direct track to London, presently maintaining FL340.
The aircraft was operating today’s AA293 long haul service from Delhi Indira Ghandi International Airport (DEL).

Flight AA293 now passing the British midlands, on track for London Heathrow, maintaining FL340.
Weather for the aircraft’s arrival at the diversion airport is current visual conditions (VFR) with light wind and visibility of 10 kilometers or more. The active runway for arrivals and departures of RWY 09.

American Airlines AA293 has now left FL340, on descent for the diversion airport London Heathrow (LHR).
The flight has maintained the emergency transponder code 7700 for priority. The aircraft operating the service is a Boeing 777-300 ER, registered N723AN.
This is an 11.2 year old wide body aircraft owned by the US carrier American Airlines. It has been in service with the airline since its initial delivery in May 2013.
