An American Airlines flight AA912 en route from Santiago to Miami has declared an emergency, squawking transponder code 700.
American Airlines flight AA912, a Boeing 787-8 declared the emergency whilst en route from Santiago and has diverted to Lima.

The American flight was in transit to Miami International Airport (MIA) from Santiago, approaching Peru when it commenced a descent and expedited a diversion to nearby Lima Jorge Chavez International Airport (LIM).
Having declared the emergency with transponder code 7700 whilst on the descent through 5,000 feet, the flight has now landed at the diversion airport. The nature of the emergency prompting the sudden diversion is not yet known.

Flight data shows that flight AA912 made an on-time departure out of Santiago Arturo Merino Benitez International Airport (SCL). Actual time of departure was logged at 21:33 local time. The flight had then proceeded normally, climbing to FL380 (38,000 feet ) for the northerly service to Florida.
A descent was then initiated at 04:32 UTC as the aircraft approach the coast of Peru en route, and a diversion was then made to Jorge Chavez International Airport. Flight crew transmitted squawk code 7700 at 04:43 UTC as the aircraft passed through 5,000 feet in the later stages of its approach into Lima.
The aircraft conducting the AA912 service from Santiago was a Boeing 787-8, registered N874AN. This is a 3.9 year old widebody aircraft belonging to the carrier American Airlines. It has been in operational service with the airline since its delivery from the factory in September 2022.
