American A321 Arrives in San Francisco With Engine Cowling Damage

Engine cowling damage was reported during a post-flight inspection of a recently landed American Airlines A321-200 at San Francisco (SFO) on 12 June.

The scheduled service had proceeded normally and the aircraft made its approach to SFO. It then landed at San Francisco International Airport (SFO) using runway 28R.

The subsequent after landing inspection of the aircraft revealed damage to the right-hand engine cowling assembly.

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) confirmed that the post flight inspection had detected the damage to the number two engine cowling.

Flight Details

Flight data shows that flight AA1764 had made an on-time departure out of Dallas Fort Worth International Airport (DFW). The flight departed at 21:19 local time on 12 June.

The flight then proceeded normally, climbing to flight level FL280 (28,000 feet) for the westerly route to San Francisco.

Let down and approach procedures were all conducted normally. Maintenance staff then noted the right-hand engine cowling damage during the routine post flight inspection by maintenance staff.

The aircraft conducting the AA1764 rotation from Dallas Fort Worth was an Airbus A321-200, registered N135NN.

This is a 9.3-year-old narrowbody aircraft belonging to the US carrier American Airlines. It has been in operational service with the airline since its initial delivery in April 2015.

It is not known at which point in the flight service that the engine cowling damage occurred.
