LONDON – With snow and ice currently affecting parts of the UK, Stansted Airport was forced to suspend scheduled services due to bad weather conditions.
At present, a yellow warning is in place for London and south-west England and appears set to continue.
Stansted Airport
The continuing poor weather conditions forced the suspension of scheduled services from Stansted Airport last night, and resulted in flight delays and diversions.
Stansted Airport had advised last night that it was affected by delays due to the need to clear snow from its single runway.
Our runway is temporarily closed whilst we undertake snow clearing. We remain open but passengers should contact their airline for the latest flight information. We apologise for any inconvenience caused and will provide further updates as soon as possible.

Gatwick Airport
Similarly, Gatwick Airport last night warned of disruptions due to weather, saying: “Safety is paramount and Gatwick temporarily closed its runway at 1755 due to un-forecast snow.”
“The airport’s snow clearing teams were in place and reopened the runway again at 2000 after ensuring that conditions were safe to do so.”
Sunday 11/ Monday 12 December: Snow and freeezing weather may cause disruption at the airport. Passengers are advised to check flight status with their airline – and also local travel conditions – before departing for the airport.

A number of scheduled flights were either delayed or cancelled with over two dozen other flights diverted during the closures.
Heathrow Airport
The BBC have reported that more than 50 flights were cancelled at Heathrow on Sunday, after ATC restrictions were imposed on the volume of traffic arriving and departing.
Freezing fog was cited as the cause for the aircraft movement restrictions at Heathrow.
UPDATE MONDAY 12/12/22 – 1045 UTC
Stanstead Airport has advised that, whilst it presently remains open and operational, the weather conditions may still result in travel delays.

This is a continuing story. Please check back for updates.
