India’s Kolkata & Indore Airports win National Tourism Awards

LONDON – Two Indian airports have received National Tourism Awards from the Government of India’s Ministry of Tourism.

The Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose International (NSCBI) Airport has been awarded the ‘Best Tourist Friendly Airport in Class X (Metro) Cities’. The Devi Ahilyabai Holkar International Airport, Indore received the ‘Best Tourist Friendly Airport’ in the “Other Cities” category

The prestigious awards were conferred to the Shri C Pattabhi, Airport Director, Kolkata Airport & Shri C V Ravindran, Airport Director, Indore Airport by Shri. Jagdeep Dhankhar, Hon’ble Vice-President of India.

The award ceremony took place at the Vigyan Bhavan, New Delhi on 27 September. Shri G. Kishan Reddy, Union Minister of Tourism and Shri Ajay Bhatt, MoS Tourism was also present at the ceremony.

The award represents recognition of efforts for providing tourist friendly amenities and contributing towards promoting tourism.

NSCBI Airport, Kolkata, the main hub and gateway to the eastern and north-eastern India region, has always provided its passengers with world-class facilities to make their travel comfortable.

Devi Ahilya Bai Holkar Airport


Devi Ahilya Bai Holkar Airport is an international airport that principally serves Indore and adjacent regions in Madhya Pradesh. It is the busiest airport in Central India and is located eight kilometres west of Indore. 

The airport always strives to achieve customer satisfaction and highest standards of airport management by providing state-of-the art infrastructure for customer satisfaction.

About the National Tourism Awards


The Ministry of Tourism, Government of India presents the National Tourism Awards to various segments of the travel and tourism industry every year. The award for the ‘Best Airport’ category is designated for the airport in India providing splendid facilities to passengers and guests.

The major criteria for selection include creation of tourist friendly infrastructure, maintenance and upkeep of the airport and adaptation of eco-friendly practices.

This week’s National Tourism Awards comes alongside news of the exponential growth of India’s air transport market. The government has ambitious plans for the development of 220 new airports by 2025.
