LONDON – UAE, Abu Dhabi-based carrier Etihad has recently celebrated its milestone of carrying its 10 millionth passenger, with just days to spare as 2022 comes to an end.

Passenger number 10 million

In recent news, Etihad Airways flight EY205 bound for Abu Dhabi (AUH) from Mumbai (BOM) carried the airline’s 10 millionth passenger.

To mark the occasion and milestone, the passenger was given a cake along with complimentary roundtrip tickets and a Gold tier membership on Etihad Guest. The passenger also received aircraft models and a polaroid camera to capture the moment.

Statement

Etihad Airways Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Antonoaldo Neves, commented on the milestone and said the following:-

“Thank you to each one of our guests who chose to fly with Etihad Airways and to our team for delivering our award-winning and reliable service day in and day out in 2022. Reaching the 10 million mark is an important milestone for the airline and our entire Etihad family.”

Etihad’s Increases China Services

As recently announced, Etihad Airways are to add Shanghai services as the Chinese demand for travel sees an increase. The recently announced route will make for stronger air connectivity between the UAE and China, and the new route to Shanghai is to be a weekly service.

With the service currently being subject to regulatory approval, Etihad Airways’ plan starts in February 2023, with service to the Shanghai Pudong Airport (PVG) twice weekly with state-of-the-art Boeing 787s and Boeing 777-300ERs.

With Etihad also having a weekly service to Beijing and a twice-weekly service to Guangzhou, this new route will provide travellers with a total of five non-stop flights between Abu Dhabi and China, every week.

Commenting on the increase was Martin Drew, Senior Vice President of Global Sales & Cargo at Etihad Aviation Group, who said: “Etihad Airways is delighted to add a second weekly passenger service to Shanghai following the further relaxation of Covid-related travel measures.

“China is a market of primary importance to Etihad, and as one of the country’s largest financial and economic centres, Shanghai plays a crucial role in our network.

“Etihad is committed to developing our operation in China, and we look forward to welcoming more travellers on board in the new year to experience our award-winning hospitality.”

Etihad’s cargo Chinese expansion

Just previous to the new passenger service increase, Etihad Cargo, the cargo and logistics arm of Etihad Aviation Group announced a new twice-weekly freighter service to Abu Dhabi from Shangai via Chennai in the first week of December, which was started shortly after the announcement on December 8.

In this announcement, Martin Drew, Senior Vice President of Global Sales & Cargo at Etihad Aviation Group, stated the following: “The Indian market is currently booming”

“The country’s industrial production is rising and manufacturing output is rebounding, driven by increases in the production of machinery and equipment, motor vehicles and metals, among others.”

“As part of Etihad Cargo’s commitment to supporting this key market, the carrier has opened up freighter capacity from Chennai to support increased demand from customers in the region.”
