LONDON – Turkish Airlines will launch direct flights from Istanbul to Katowice Airport starting March 3, 2023. The national carrier from Turkey will operate the route initially five times a week, and even daily in the summer!

This is the third route to Poland by one of the world’s largest airlines. Turkish carrier currently flies from Istanbul and Antalya to Warsaw Chopin Airport.

The bilateral aviation agreement between Poland and Turkey was concluded back in the communist era. According to the current agreement, Polish carriers can operate scheduled flights from any point in Poland to Istanbul and Ankara.

Turkish air carriers can operate scheduled flights from any point in Turkey to Warsaw and Katowice. Turkish Airlines has just taken advantage of this provision.

Important route for Katowice Airport

As one of the biggest cities of Poland and capital of Silesia Voivodeship, Katowice occupies a significant place for the country’s industry and distinguishes itself with its beautiful nature and historical values.

The city also draws the interest of travelers with its architectural works such as Parachute Tower, Zaleze Palace and Silesian Theatre.

This is important news for the development of Katowice Airport, for the first time Turkish Airlines will offer regular service to Istanbul from a Polish regional airport.

This is also very good news for the Silesian region, the new route will facilitate business and scientific contacts and positively influence the development of tourism.

Passengers will also gain access to the route network that Turkish Airlines offers from its modern airport in Istanbul – says Artur Tomasik, CEO of the Upper Silesian Aviation Society (GTL SA) which manages the Katowice Airport.

Flights in winter schedule

Turkish Airlines guests will be able to travel to Katowice Airport with special round trip launch prices starting from $149 USD including taxes.

In the winter season of 2022/23, Turkish will fly on this route 5 times a week according to the schedule (local times):

  • TK1270 Katowice 19.00 – 23.20 Istanbul (—4-6-)

Summer schedule flights

And from July 1, the Turkish airline will offer daily scheduled flights (local times):

  • TK1268 Katowice 09.10 – 13.30 Istanbul (1-3-5-7)
  • TK1269 Istanbul 17.55 – 18.10 Katowice (-2-4-6-)
  • TK1270 Katowice 19.00 – 23.20 Istanbul (-2-4-6-)

The route will be served by Airbus A319 and A320 aircraft carrying 132 and 159 passengers respectively.

Kraków Airport is also a priority for Turkish

The airline is looking to expand its operations to six new destinations on the European continent. Turkish Airlines has wanted to offer flights to Krakow for many years.

The capital of Małopolska region has been on the list of planned new destinations for a long time, but the existing bilateral aviation agreement between Poland and Turkey allows regular commercial flights between the Turkish Republic (Istanbul) and Warsaw.

As long as the agreement is not renegotiated by the governments of both countries, Turkish Airlines’ plans will remain as plans.

Although the frequent appearance of Krakow on all possible lists, suggests that the carrier may have already started negotiations on the matter or they are at an advanced stage.
