BENGALURU – In India, the aviation sector has almost returned to its pre-covid level and today I flew with carrier IndiGo out of Bengaluru airport. With airlines launching new routes and discounted fares, people are now opting to fly more than ever.
I have always wanted to fly in an ATR-42, but I mostly fly between “Metro cities” so never had the chance to fly one. I was randomly browsing on “Skyscanner,” and I came across this amazing deal for flights between Bengaluru-Kurnool.
I did not waste any time in booking as I could fly back the same day and I also would get to try out Indigo’s ATR.
IndiGo: Bengaluru to Kurnool
My BLR-KJB & KJB-BLR sector was operated on Aerospatiale ATR-72-600 (twin-turboprop).

According to the Indian guidelines for flying post pandemic it was now mandatory to “Web Check-In” and fill the health declaration form before proceeding for the flight.
I had booked an “IndiGo Flexi” fare because in case something came up, I could reschedule my flight by only paying the fare difference, and it also had its own perks as I would get a complimentary meal and drink, and it would also allow me to select any standard seat for free.
So, I had already selected my seat and pre-booked my meal. I was surprised that on such a short flight, Indigo still provides an option to pre-book/order meals.
Indigo’s app & website is one of the most user-friendly sites amongst all the Indian carriers. I used their app to check-in, and I would rate it 5/5.
Arrival at Bengaluru Airport
Bengaluru Airport has only one Terminal (T1), whereas another terminal building is under construction.
The existing terminal is one the beautiful terminal buildings in the country, the airport has enough of check-in counters to make sure passengers have a hassle-free experience.
Check-in at Bengaluru Airport
IndiGo airlines is known for its efficiency, they operate so many flights out of Bengaluru but still manage to keep their Baggage Drop/Check-in time below 15-20 minutes.
I have never experienced any long wait for any Indigo flight across the country, so kudos to the Ground staff for that. The ground staff at BLR airport was helpful and efficient, I was handed my boarding pass within 10 minutes, and I headed towards the “Security Check”
The security check area is big and has enough staff and counters for a smooth experience but still during any typical busy day it takes around 30 minutes.
After waiting long for a tray, I put my bag and electronic items on the belt. It took me 32 minutes precisely to complete my security check and enter the airside.
Lounge at Bengaluru Airport
In India everyone has access to lounge using their Credit/Debit cards, so it did take a while for me to get into the lounge and was lucky enough to find a corner seat which gave some privacy.
The Plaza Premium lounge gives access to VISA/Mastercard/AMEX etc. The lounge offers a decent breakfast options and Hot/cold beverages.
There is a live counter which serves Indian Breakfast like Dosa etc. Lounge also has a beautiful view of apron, the only draw back of this lounge is its washroom which is very small and is usually crowded.
Boarding started on time and as per my expectations Indigo was on time again. We had to board a bus to reach the aircraft as it was parked in remote bay (I prefer bus boarding as it always gives me an opportunity to get some amazing shots.
This was a typical seat that one could expect on an ATR, one thing I love about IndiGo is that they stand true to their motto, which is “Lean, Clean flying Machine”.
The seat was kept really clean, and on an Indigo flight, you will always find the seat belt kept in “X” formation. The leg space was average (as expected in LCC)
Soon after take-off the cabin crew started the meal service, I had pre-ordered a “tin can” of cookies. It was a very short flight, and I was just halfway through the can, when the crew came around to collect disposal items as we were about to land.
Arrival at Kurnool
We landed at Uyyalawada Narasimha Reddy Airport (Kurnool) on time (as expected) as this was a regional airport there was no bus and we had to walk to the terminal building.
As of now Indigo is the only airline that flies to this airport, though this airport is new it already has started to show signs of wear and tear.
The arrival hall is small or more like a hallway, there is no baggage belt, your luggage will be kept on the floor and the ground will check your boarding pass and give you your luggage.
The washrooms in this terminal building were kept in very unhygienic condition. Now I had a few hours to spend as this aircraft would now fly to Visakhapatnam and fly back to Kurnool, and then back to Bengaluru.
Indigo is undoubtedly one of the best airlines in India. from check in to in flight experience everything was amazing, the thing I love the most about Indigo is how clean they maintain their aircrafts despite of having a very short turnaround time for their aircraft.
Their website as I mentioned earlier is one of the most user-friendly websites, which allows you to avail all their services with ease. This reduces the customer’s need to call the customer care.
For example, if your flight gets cancelled, they have something called as ‘Plan B” and once you enter your PNR it will show you all the available options like alternate flight or a option to avail full refund.
This is very helpful as sometimes being on hold for an hour is frustrating. I would love to fly again with Indigo.
