At the IATA Annual General Meeting in Istanbul, Turkish Airlines confirmed that its 600 aircraft order has been delayed by two months.
However, with this, the Chairman has given some information about what the order is actually going to look like.

No Order in Istanbul: 230 Widebodies, 400 Narrowbodies for Turkish Airlines?

Courtesy of Andreas Spaeth on Twitter, whilst the order will not be unveiled in Istanbul or at the Paris Air Show, Chairman Bolat of Turkish Airlines gave the following insight into what the order will look like:
- 200 Boeing 787s/Airbus A350s.
- 400 Boeing 737 MAXs/Airbus A320neos.
- 25 Boeing 777Xs/Airbus A350-1000s.
So if anything, the order is slightly larger than the 600-based figure that was supposed to be half-unveiled in Istanbul.
However, this does signal that the entire deal is still up for negotiation between Airbus & Boeing themselves.
Carrier Is Set To Grow Substantially Over 10 Years…
Before the Istanbul Annual General Meeting with IATA, Chairman Bolat of Turkish Airlines had this to say on the carrier’s growth:
“For the last 20 years, Turkish Airlines has grown 12% on average. For the next 10 years, we are intending to grow to 7.6% and to reach 813 aircraft in 2033″.
“During the IATA event, we’re going to announce all this with one of the big manufacturers. We have almost finished discussions with them.”
“So we are going to order around 600 aircraft, around 200 will be widebody and 400 narrowbody.”
Turkish Airlines currently operates a mixed fleet of Boeing and Airbus aircraft. As per data from Planespotters.net, the carrier operates the following as of May 12th:
- Airbus:
- 6 A319s.
- 11 A320s.
- 105 A321 Family aircraft.
- 60 A330 Family aircraft.
- 12 A350XWBs.
- Boeing:
- 80 B737 Family aircraft.
- 42 B777 Family aircraft.
- 16 B787 Family aircraft.
What remains clear is that Turkish Airlines are definitely set to make some form of a blockbuster order. It also puts to bed the rumors that it will be revealed at the Paris Air Show as well as in Istanbul.
But for now, all eyes are on Boeing & Airbus to see what sort of deals they can negotiate, as things are definitely still up for grabs.
