LONDON – GetJet Airlines, the IOSA-approved Lithuanian ACMI and Charter carrier, has announced the wet-lease of 1 B737-800 to Fly Swoop, the Canadian ultra-low-cost carrier owned by WestJet.

WestJet is the second largest airline in Canada and one of the top 10 airlines in North America by the number of passengers carried.

GetJet Airlines’ Boeing 737-800 bearing the registration LY-DUE was delivered to Toronto Pearson International Airport on New Year’s Eve, the 31st of December 2022.

The aircraft will begin commercial operations within Fly Swoops’ network on the 1st of January 2023.

Commenting on the arrival of the wet-leased Boeing 737, Rūta Kulvinskaitė, GetJet Airlines CEO said, “GetJet Airlines is delighted to kick off 2023 with this exciting collaboration along Fly Swoop.”

“We have grown from strength to strength during this winter season, with our company’s portfolio expanding internationally, as our current fleet has a strong footprint across four continents, serving clients in Europe, Africa, Asia, and North America.”

“It is an encouraging indicator that the aviation industry is on the right track of recovery as airlines are continuously looking to expand their networks,” Kulvinskaitė concluded.

GetJet Airlines has a proven experience in the Canadian market – the company has operated flights on behalf of Sunwings, the Canadian leisure carrier. The partnership was a milestone in the airlines’ growth internationally in 2019.

Recent leases by GetJet

In November 2022, GetJet entered a long-term partnership with the Nigerian operator Ibom Air. The two airlines signed a twelve-month wet-lease agreement for Two Airbus A320-200.

The aircraft bearing the Lithuanian registration LY-GYM and LY-FAS commence commercial operations on the 21st of November 2022.

GetJet Airlines, in cooperation with its established affiliates, will further support Ibom Air via crew training and line maintenance services in Nigeria.

The broader strategy for this partnership between the Akwa Ibom state-owned airline, and the Lithuanian ACMI specialist GetJet Airlines, is strengthening Ibom Air’s competitive position within the West African market.

Contract operations

GetJet previously signed an agreement with Corendon Airlines, a leisure airline transporting tourists between Europe and holiday destinations across the Eastern Mediterranean.

Under the terms of the 7-month ACMI agreement, GetJet Airlines operated flights on behalf of Corendon Airlines for the Summer 2022 season, from April 1, 2022.

Two GetJet Airlines’ Airbus A320 type aircraft, based in Antalya, operated flights connecting popular European destinations.

The airline has also operated flights on behalf of TUI and Tunisair with its widebody aircraft.
