LONDON – EK35, one of Emirates’ flights between Dubai and Newcastle, has declared an emergency whilst on descent into the UK airport.
The flight is being operated by A6-EGM, one of the carrier’s Boeing 777-31HER aircraft, with the jet being 10 years old at the time of writing.

Data from RadarBox.com shows that the aircraft is descending through FL230 at the time of writing.
This is a developing story.

UPDATE #1 @ 1042 UK time – EK35 is currently descending out of 7,000 feet as it gets closer to Newcastle. No diversion is needed.
UPDATE #2 @ 1046 UK time – EK35 looking like it will be going for a Runway 25 approach into Newcastle. Updates to follow.

UPDATE #3 @ 1051 UK time – EK35 has now established itself for the approach on Runway 25; landing is imminent.

UPDATE #4 @ 1055 UK time – EK35 has landed safely at Newcastle Airport. AviationSource has approached Emirates for a comment on the reason for the emergency.
UPDATE #5 @ 1357 UK time – Emirates has responded to our request, confirming it was a medical emergency that was onboard. They said:
“Emirates flight EK35 from Dubai to Newcastle on 28th November was met by medical services upon arrival due to a sick passenger on board. The passenger was assisted off the aircraft and is receiving medical attention.“
