LONDON – Emirates and TAP Air Portugal have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to expand their current codeshare partnership. The new agreement will allow customers of both airlines to benefit from seamless connectivity on many new routes across the Americas, North Africa, and East Asia.
Emirates and TAP Air Portugal will also look to explore new ways to enhance the co-operation of their respective frequent flyer programs to offer customers more when flying with each respective airline and creating a smoother experience for popular benefits such as lounge access.
Arik De, TAP Air Portugal’s Chief Revenue & Network Officer said: “TAP Air Portugal is pleased to enhance our Emirates partnership, allowing our guests greater geographic access. We look forward to taking Emirates customers to more cities within Portugal, to our destinations in the Americas and North Africa, and for them to benefit from our Stopover Portugal program.”
As part of the new expanded partnership plans TAP Air Portugal said it will place it’s code on Emirates’ flights to popular East Asia destinations like Taipei, Tokyo, Osaka, Mumbai, Delhi, Dhaka, Male, Jakarta, Denpasar, Manila, Hanoi and additional locations such as Barcelona in Spain and Mexico City in Mexico.
While the plans for Emirates’ Customers will see them be able to more seamlessly access additional domestic destinations in Portugal, TAP Air Portugal’s flights will operate to cities in the USA, Canada, Mexico, Brazil, Senegal, Guinea-Bissau, Guinea-Conakry, Morocco, Tunisia, Gambia, and Cape Verde.

The MoU is now going to be subject to approval from the regulators, with the confirmations and additional agreement currently expected to be accepted and come into effect from May 01, 2021.
