Aircraft in Weda Bay, Indonesia Slides Off Runway

It has emerged over the weekend that a Super Air Jet Airbus A320 aircraft slid off the runway after landing into Weda Bay, Indonesia.

Super Air Jet flight IU2180 is a routine scheduled flight between Manado and Weda Bay, Indonesia.

The aircraft involved in the incident is registered as PK-STD.

As per data from Planespotters.net, PK-STD is a 10.3 year old Airbus A320 that first started out life with IndiGo in March 2014.

It remained with the Indian carrier until August 2022 when it was returned to lessor AMCK Aviation.

In December 2022, Super Jet Air took delivery of the aircraft, where it has been since.

Of the A320 variant, the airline has 61 in their fleet.

Furthermore, of that 61, 46 are in active service and 15 are currently parked.

Average fleet age for the only aircraft type they have in the fleet stands at 13.2 years.

Super Jet Air flight IU2180 departed Manado at 1217 local time on May 25 and headed to Weda Bay, Indonesia.

As per reporting from The Aviation Herald, the aircraft overran the runway after landing.

It is understood this overshoot was around 100 feet further than the end of the actual runway.

Furthermore, after the excursion, the aircraft came to a stop and became stuck in the dirt with all landing gears affected.

It is understood the aircraft is still on the ground following this incident in Weda Bay, Indonesia.

Looking ahead, it is now the turn of investigators to establish what happened to the Super Jet Air Airbus A320 to cause this overrun.

All eyes will be on the overall investigation reports whenever that comes out. No date has been established for now.
