Airbus is set to elevate the air travel experience with the introduction of the A220 Airspace cabin, launching with Air Canada in early 2026.
This new cabin design brings the full Airspace experience to the A220. It features innovative XL overhead bins, enhanced lighting, and a passenger-focused layout.
The single-aisle A220, already a favorite for its comfort, now promises an even better inflight experience with these upgrades.
A220 Airspace Cabin Appeal
The A220 Airspace cabin stands out in its class. It offers the widest seats, aisles, and windows, creating a spacious and airy feel. The new XL bins provide 20% more storage space while being 10% lighter than previous designs.
These bins can hold 15% more bags, carrying up to 19 additional pieces on the A220-300. This capability is due to a sturdy four-frame structure that supports longer and heavier items.
Crew members will also find the bins easier to manage, speeding up boarding and turnaround times. This efficiency saves airlines time and boosts operational performance.
The cabin fitout also introduces advanced lighting options. An optional third LED light strip under the bins enhances the ambiance, making the cabin feel welcoming and modern.
Airbus has also redesigned the Passenger Service Unit (PSU) to align with the sleek Airspace aesthetic, adding to the overall experience.
Airbus unveiled the A220 Airspace cabin in 2023, with production starting later in 2025. Existing A220 operators can retrofit their fleets in the coming years.
The XL bins will become standard on new A220-300 deliveries by late 2026. Air Canada, the launch customer, has ordered 65 A220-300s, with the first featuring XL bins arriving in early 2026.
