The Latvian national airline airBaltic has officially launch its winter 2024 schedule, introducing nine new routes across its network from bases in Riga, Tallinn, and Vilnius.
Of these, five routes will depart from Riga. The season was inaugurated by a celebratory flight from Riga to Madeira, Portugal, which took off on 28 October 2024. The flight time between Riga and Madeira is approximately 5 hours and 55 minutes.
“As we enter the winter season, our focus remains steadfast on meeting the evolving needs of our passengers. This reinforces airBaltic’s role as a pivotal link across the Baltics,” stated Martin Gauss, President and CEO of the airline.
“These new routes underscore our commitment to providing travelers, both for leisure and business, with ever-greater connectivity and travel opportunities throughout our region and beyond.”
Winter 2024 Schedule Highlights
The new winter lineup from the Baltic carrier caters to a diverse array of preferences. There are options for those seeking sun-soaked escapes from the Baltic chill. airBaltic is introducing services to the Egyptian resort towns of Sharm El Sheikh and Hurghada, as well as the picturesque Portuguese island of Madeira.
Conversely, winter sports enthusiasts will delight in the new links to Innsbruck, Austria, Kittilä, Finland, and Oslo Torp, Norway. These are key gateways to some of Europe’s premier ski and snowboarding destinations.
Rounding out the new Riga routes are connections to Rzeszow, Poland and the continued expansion of the airline’s network in Central and Eastern Europe.
Notably, the carrier’s winter schedule also sees the introduction of two new routes from its Tallinn hub. These are Kittilä, Finland and Barcelona, Spain. It will also connections from Vilnius to Oslo Torp, Norway and Düsseldorf, Germany.
Connectivity from the Baltics
In total, airBaltic will operate over 130 routes across its network this winter. As a hybrid airline, it leverages the upsides of both traditional network and low-cost carriers. airBaltic connects the Baltics with over 70 destinations across Europe, the Middle East, North Africa, and the Caucasus.
Founded in 1995, today airBaltic operates one of Europe’s youngest fleets, consisting of 48 Airbus A220-300 aircraft.

The airline’s expanded winter schedule further highlights the carrier’s pivotal role in facilitating travel and commerce across the Baltics.
By connecting its home markets of Latvia, Estonia, and Lithuania to an ever-widening array of international destinations, airBaltic is cementing its position as an essential economic engine and mobility provider for the region.
“With an expanded network of destinations and increased frequency on popular routes, airBaltic’s winter schedule offers extensive options from Riga for both business travel and winter recreation,” added Odiņa.
