airBaltic has forged a strategic partnership with SUA Líneas Aéreas, an innovative new startup airline from Latin America.
As part of the agreement, the Latvian airline will wet lease up to five of its Airbus A220-300 aircraft to SUA Líneas Aéreas. It will also support the new airline in such areas as operational set-up, pilot training, know-how sharing, IT and automation, and sustainability initiatives.
This cooperation is planned for the winter season to make more efficient use of airBaltic’s aircraft without impacting the existing route network.
Partnership Perspectives
Martin Gauss, airBaltic’s President and CEO, expressed enthusiasm about the partnership’s potential. “This collaboration opens exciting possibilities to share our A220-300 operational expertise in a new market.”
“We’re proud to support better air connectivity worldwide and look forward to helping SUA enhance regional travel options in Latin America. Our experience with the A220-300 fleet will prove invaluable in establishing efficient operations in the region.”

SUA Líneas Aéreas’ CEO Antonio Rama emphasized the strategic importance of the partnership for their launch phase.
“AirBaltic’s knowledge in fleet management, operations, and staff training will help us build a strong, customer-focused airline. Their support plays a vital role in our early development phase, ensuring we can deliver exceptional service from day one.”
Boosting Latin American Connectivity
The new airline plans to transform regional connectivity when it begins operations in late 2025. SUA will establish routes connecting major urban centers across Uruguay, Argentina, Brazil, and Chile, addressing a significant market gap.
These new connections will dramatically reduce travel times and provide direct flight options in markets where passengers currently face limited or inconvenient choices.
airBaltic brings substantial expertise to this partnership, currently operating more than 130 routes from its main bases. This covers Riga, Tallinn, Vilnius, and Tampere, plus seasonal operations from Gran Canaria.
Its extensive network covers destinations throughout Europe, the Middle East, North Africa, and the Caucasus region, demonstrating their capability to manage complex international operations.
