Air Transat has announced the introduction of direct flights between Toronto Pearson International Airport (YYZ) and Berlin Brandenburg Airport (BER).

The seasonal service will operate twice weekly, with departures scheduled for Thursdays and Sundays from June 19 to October 24, 2025. It will offer travelers unprecedented access to one of Europe’s most vibrant capitals.

This strategic expansion follows Air Transat’s recent announcement of new services to Valencia, Spain, showcasing the airline’s ambitious growth in the European market.

European Network Expansion

With the addition of Berlin, Air Transat now boasts an impressive network of 36 non-stop routes connecting Canada with destinations across Europe and North Africa, reinforcing its position as a leading transatlantic carrier.

Sebastian Ponce, Chief Revenue Officer of Transat, emphasizes the strategic significance of this new route. “By launching direct service to Berlin, we’re not just filling a gap in the market – we’re creating new opportunities for both leisure and business travelers.”

“Our state-of-the-art A321LR aircraft, combined with our robust partnership with Porter Airlines, allows us to deliver an exceptional travel experience while connecting the German capital with major Canadian cities.”

Partnership with Porter Airlines

The partnership with Porter Airlines plays a crucial role in this expansion, offering seamless connections for travelers from Montreal, Vancouver, Calgary, Edmonton, and Halifax.

This enhanced connectivity makes Berlin’s rich cultural heritage, vibrant arts scene, and historical landmarks more accessible to Canadians across the country, while also facilitating business travel between these important economic centers.

The timing of this route launch is particularly significant, as noted by Kurush Minocher, Interim Chief Commercial Officer at Toronto Pearson Airport. “The Toronto-Berlin route represents our third-largest unserved European market, with over 100,000 passengers currently making indirect journeys annually.”

“Air Transat’s direct service will dramatically improve the travel experience for these passengers, eliminating the need for connections and reducing overall travel time.”

Berlin Airport’s Chief Executive Officer, Aletta von Massenbach, shares this enthusiasm. “The introduction of direct flights to Toronto marks a significant milestone in our long-haul strategy.”

“Air Transat’s arrival not only strengthens our transatlantic offerings. It also opens up exciting new possibilities for travelers from the Berlin-Brandenburg region to explore Canada and North America. Similarly, we look forward to welcoming more Canadian visitors to experience the unique charm and dynamism of our capital region.”

Airbus A321LR Operations

The service will be operated using Air Transat’s modern A321LR aircraft. This is recognized as one of the most fuel-efficient aircraft in its category.

Passengers will enjoy the benefits of ergonomically designed cabins and a sophisticated inflight entertainment system, ensuring a comfortable and enjoyable journey across the Atlantic.
