Air Transat Flight Rome-Montreal Diverts to London

Air Transat flight TS403, an A330-200 bound for Montreal from Rome, diverted to London Gatwick reportedly due to a technical problem on 6 June.

An Air Transat flight operating from Rome to Montreal made an unscheduled diversion to London on 6 June 2024.

Air Transat flight TS403, an A330-200 operating from Rome Fiumicino (FCO) airport was en route over the Atlantic when flight crew initiated a diversion.

The aircraft had transited Irish airspace and was over the Atlantic to the west of Ireland when the diversion was made. According to the source Airlive, a technical issue prompted the decision to divert.

Flight crew did not declare a formal emergency and the aircraft continued under normal flight procedures to London Gatwick airport.

The Air Transat flight subsequently landed without further incident at London Gatwick (LGW) approximately two hours after the turnaround.

Flight Details

Flight data shows that flight TS403 departed Rome Fiumicino (FCO) at 12:15 local time on 6 June.

The flight set course normally, climbing to flight level FL390 (39,000 feet) for the transatlantic crossing to Montréal-Pierre Elliott Trudeau International Airport (YUL).

The diversion to London Garwick was subsequently initiated at approximately 15:00 UTC.

The aircraft conducting the TS403 long-haul service to Montreal was an Airbus A330-200, registered C-GUBD. This is a 21.1-year old widebody aircraft belonging to the carrier Air Transat.

It has been in service with the airline since May 2017. The aircraft was previously operated by UAE flag carrier Emirates since its initial delivery since June 2003.

Though it also operates many year-round flights to Europe from their Toronto and Montreal bases. its main Canadian gateways are Montréal–Trudeau International Airport and Toronto Pearson International Airport.
