Air New Zealand Flight Auckland-Wellington Suffers Hydraulic Problems in Christchurch

Earlier this week, an Air New Zealand flight bound for Wellington from Auckland had to divert to Christchurch amid hydraulic problems.

Earlier this week, an Air New Zealand flight bound for Wellington from Auckland had to divert to Christchurch amid hydraulic problems.

Information has been released pertinent to the incident at hand, which we will get into in this article.

Without further ado, let’s get into it…

Air New Zealand Flight NZ405 – Auckland to Wellington…


Earlier this week, an Air New Zealand flight bound for Wellington from Auckland had to divert to Christchurch amid hydraulic problems.

Air New Zealand flight NZ405, which suffered the hydraulic problems in Christchurch, is a routine scheduled flight between Auckland and Wellington.

Furthermore, the aircraft involved in the incident was ZK-OXF.

As per data from Planespotters.net, ZK-OXF is a 10.2 year old Airbus A320ceo that was delivered to the airline back in July 2014.

Of the A320ceo variant, the airline has 17 of them in their fleet.

Moreover, of that 17, all but one are in active service, with an average fleet age of 10.7 years.

As well as the A320ceo, Air New Zealand have the following other aircraft in their mainline fleet:

  • 29 ATR 72s.
  • 6 Airbus A320neos.
  • 12 Airbus A321s.
  • 9 Boeing 777s.
  • 14 Boeing 787s.
  • 23 Dash 8s.

Air New Zealand flight NZ405, which suffered the hydraulic problems in Christchurch, departed Auckland at 0702 local time on September 10 bound for Wellington.

As per The Aviation Herald, it is understood the aircraft aborted it’s approach to the initial destination due to this issue.

From there, the decision was made to divert to Christchurch, which it did so without further incident 55 minutes later.

Following the landing, it emerged that two of the three brakes weren’t working on the aircraft, which was why Christchurch was needed.

ZK-OXF, the Air New Zealand Airbus A320 involved in the incident in Christchurch on NZ405 Auckland-Wellington, remains grounded following the incident.

Furthermore, it is unclear when the aircraft will return to service.

Maintenance technicians will need to look at the extent of the hydraulic problems.

Data from RadarBox indicates that the aircraft has been slotted in for flights starting on September 12.

However, this is of course subject to change.
