On August 22, an Air India flight from Mumbai declared an emergency enroute to Trivandrum amid reports of a bomb threat onboard the aircraft.
Information has been released pertinent to the incident at hand, which we will get into in this article.

Air India Flight AI657 – Mumbai to Trivandrum…
Air India flight AI657, which suffered the bomb threat, is a routine scheduled flight between Mumbai and Trivandrum.
Furthermore, it is understood the aircraft involved in the incident was VT-EXJ.
As per data from Planespotters.net, VT-EXJ is a 6.7 year old Airbus A320neo that was delivered to the airline back in December 2017.
Also, of the Airbus A320neo variant, Air India has 48 of them in their fleet.
Moreover, of that 48, all of them are in active service, with an average fleet age of 4.0 years.
As well as the Airbus A320neo, the airline has the following other aircraft in their mainline fleet:
- 10 Airbus A319s.
- 9 Airbus A320ceos.
- 17 Airbus A321s.
- 6 Airbus A350s.
- 27 Boeing 777s.
- 27 Boeing 787s.
Air India flight AI657, which suffered the bomb threat in Trivandrum, departed Mumbai at 0554 local time on August 22.
As per AeroTime, it is understood a “bomb in flight” not was found in the lavatory of the Airbus A320neo.
From there, the emergency was declared and authorities notified about a potential bomb onboard.
Moreover, Air India flight AI657 landed safely into Trivandrum without further incident at 0750 local time.
Airline & Airport Speaks Out On The Incident…
Following the bomb threat onboard Air India flight AI657 from Mumbai, the aircraft was taken to a remote bay to be checked in Trivandrum.
Furthermore, following no threat being identified, passengers were eventually allowed to deplane the aircraft.
It is understood authorities are investigating where the note came from.
In a statement, the destination airport said the following to The Times of India:
“There has been no impact on life. Airport operations are currently uninterrupted,”
A spokesperson for the airline also said the following on this:
“The crew carried out all the laid down security drills keeping passenger safety as top priority”.
