Jackson Square Aviation (JSA) has successfully completed the delivery of seven Boeing 737-8 aircraft to Air India Express.

This marks the conclusion of a significant long-term lease agreement between the two companies. It provides AIX with vital fleet support and also solidifies its partnership with the major global aircraft lessor.

Aircraft Lease Amid Boeing Disruption

Air India Express (AIX) is a subsidiary of Air India, and has been a prominent player in the Indian aviation market for years. It offers affordable and reliable domestic and international flights.

The addition of these seven Boeing 737-8 aircraft to its fleet is a strategic move by the carrier. The airline aims to meet the increasing demand for air travel in India, despite delays and supply chain issues affecting new aircraft deliveries

David Jones, JSA’s Head of Asia Pacific Marketing, expressed his support for the leasing partnership. “We are thrilled to join forces with Air India Express and contribute to their fleet expansion. These deliveries represent a milestone in our commitment to providing innovative aircraft leasing solutions to our customers.”

Nipun Aggarwal, Chief Commercial Officer of Air India, echoed Jones’ sentiments. He highlighted the importance of the Boeing 737-8 in the airline’s growth plans. He emphasized that the aircraft’s fuel efficiency, passenger comfort, and reliability align perfectly with Air India’s vision.

Boeing Strikes Impact AIX Deliveries

Air India Express, along with other Indian airlines like Akasa Air and SpiceJet, was facing potential disruptions due to a strike by Boeing workers.

The strike, which was decided upon by workers last Friday, will halt operations in the Seattle area. This is a key region for Boeing’s commercial plane manufacturing, and becomes the first strike in 16 years.

This disruption in production has led to further concerns about delays in aircraft deliveries, potentially affecting the airlines’ expansion plans and financial gains.

The strike’s impact on Air India Express was particularly notable as the airline was actively expanding its fleet. The recent lease of 7 Boeing 737-8 aircraft by Air India Express may serve to partially offset the concerns related to the Boeing worker strikes.

By leasing aircraft, Air India Express reduces its dependence on new deliveries from Boeing, minimizing the impact of potential delays. The full impacts of the recent decision to strike by thousands of Boeing workers remains to be seen. The US plane manufacturer will return to the bargaining table with the union shortly.
