Air India and Singapore Airlines Expand Codeshare with 51 New Routes

In the most substantial update since 2010, Air India and Singapore Airlines will expand their codeshare agreement with the addition of 51 new routes.

Air India and Singapore Airlines (SIA) are significantly expanded their partnership through an enhanced codeshare agreement.

The move marks a significant increase in aviation collaboration between India and Singapore. This landmark expansion adds 11 Indian destinations and 40 international locations to their joint network. This represents the most substantial update to their cooperation since 2010.

Codesharing Commencement

Starting 27 October 2024, both carriers will share codes on flights connecting Singapore with Bengaluru and Chennai.

This strategic enhancement boosts their combined weekly scheduled services between the two countries from 14 to 56 flights. It effectively offers travelers unprecedented flexibility and convenience in their travel planning.

Indian Domestic Network Access

Under the expanded agreement, SIA customers gain extensive access to Air India’s domestic routes from major Indian hubs. From Delhi, travelers can seamlessly connect to Amritsar, Bengaluru, Coimbatore, Lucknow, and Varanasi.

The Mumbai hub offers even more extensive connectivity, with flights to Ahmedabad, Amritsar, Bengaluru, Coimbatore, Goa, Jaipur, Kolkata, Lucknow, and Thiruvananthapuram.

The partnership also includes routes between Kolkata and Guwahati, enhancing regional connectivity in Eastern India.

SIA Network Access

Air India passengers receive significantly expanded access to SIA’s comprehensive network, encompassing 29 destinations. These include seven major Australian cities: Adelaide, Brisbane, Cairns, Darwin, Melbourne, Perth, and Sydney.

The agreement also covers key Southeast Asian destinations, including Bandar Seri Begawan in Brunei, Phnom Penh and Siem Reap in Cambodia, and multiple Indonesian cities.

Japanese destinations include Fukuoka, Nagoya, Osaka, and both Tokyo airports (Haneda and Narita). Meanwhile, Korean coverage extends to Busan and Seoul. The arrangement maintains existing codeshare services to Kuala Lumpur while adding connections to other regional destinations.

Air India International Network

For SIA customers, the partnership opens up Air India’s international routes from Bengaluru, Delhi, and Mumbai. This supports 12 strategic destinations across Europe, the Middle East, and Africa. These include major European cities such as Copenhagen, Paris, Frankfurt, and Milan, plus three London airports.

Middle Eastern connections feature Jeddah and Riyadh, while African coverage includes Nairobi. The agreement also extends to Colombo, enhancing regional connectivity.

Proposed Future Expansion

Both airlines have confirmed plans to progressively expand these codeshare arrangements, with additional destinations planned for future inclusion. The new codeshare flights will become available through both carriers’ booking systems following regulatory approvals, ensuring a smooth transition for customers.

Air India’s Chief Commercial Officer, Nipun Aggarwal, emphasized the agreement’s strategic importance. “This partnership expansion significantly enhances our global reach, offering our guests greater choice and connectivity across South East Asia, the Far East, and Australasia.”

“We’re particularly excited to welcome Singapore Airlines customers on our extensive network within India and to points across Europe, Africa, and the Middle East.”

SIA’s Chief Commercial Officer, Lee Lik Hsin, highlighted the partnership’s mutual benefits. “This enhanced codeshare agreement showcases our strong partnership with Air India and demonstrates our commitment to meeting the high travel demand between India and Singapore.”

“By adding Air India’s comprehensive domestic network to our offering, we’re significantly improving our service proposition in this key market while contributing to the growth of both aviation markets.”

The expansion represents a significant step forward in strengthening aviation ties between India and Singapore. It promises enhanced connectivity and travel options for passengers from both regions.
