Air India flight AI2592 was being operated by an Airbus A320-200N. It had been cleared for an intersection departure from runway 28 Goa Manohar International Airport (GOX). The aircraft was performing a scheduled flight bound for Hyderabad Rajiv Gandhi International Airport (HYD).

The aircraft had been cleared for an intersection departure from A5 (circled in red on aerodrome chart below) for runway 28.

Flight crew mistakenly entered the parallel taxiway A (marked with red arrow on aerodrome chart below) instead of runway 28, and commenced a takeoff from the taxiway.

According to the online source Aviation Herald, the flight had accelerated to approximately 108 kn ground speed before and abort instruction was given. Upon receiving the ATC instruction to discontinue the takeoff, flight crew conducted a rejected takeoff procedure.

The aircraft was then brought safely to taxi speed on the taxiway. The aircraft subsequently vacated and returned to the apron hardstanding area.

The flight was subsequently cancelled as a result of the takeoff incident. The Indian aviation regulator DGCA classified the event as a serious incident and has opened an investigation.

The aircraft conducting the intended AI2592 service to Hyderabad Rajiv Gandhi International Airport was an Airbus A320neo. The aircraft is registered VT-EXT.

This is a 7.7 year old narrowbody aircraft belonging to the national carrier Air India. It has been in operational service with the airline since its initial delivery from the factory in April 2017.
