Air France Flight AF349 Montreal-Paris Declares Emergency

An Air France flight operating from Montreal to Paris has declared an emergency and is diverting to St John’s.

Diversion to St John’s (YYT)

Air France flight AF349, a Boeing 777-200 en route from Montreal to Paris, declared an emergency with transponder code 7700 not long after departure.

The flight then initiated a diversion to St. John’s International Airport (YYT).

Departure Montreal (YUL)

Air France flight AF349 had made an on-time departure from Montréal-Pierre Elliott Trudeau International Airport (YUL) at 23:17 local time.

The flight had then set course normally for Paris Charles De Gaulle (CDG), and climbed to cruising level FL370.

The diversion was then initiated from the cruise and a descent and direct track for St John’s International Airport was then expedited.

According to the online source Airlive, the diversion was prompted by a medical emergency onboard.

Landed St. John’s (YYT)

Having initiated a diversion earlier today, Air France flight AF349 has now landed at the diversion airport St. John’s International Airport (YYT).

The aircraft conducting today’s long haul service to Paris (CDG) was a Boeing 777-200, registered F-GSPQ. This is a 23.4 year old widebody aircraft belonging to the French national carrier Air France.

It has been in operational service with the airline since its initial delivery in March 2001.
