An Air France flight operating from Paris to Johannesburg has declared an emergency, squawking transponder code 7700.
Air France flight AF990, a Boeing 777-300ER, declared the emergency whilst en route to Johannesburg. The aircraft is currently conducting a diversion to Abidjan.

Having declared the emergency in cruising flight, flight AF990 is now expediting a diversion to Félix Houphouët Boigny International Airport (ABJ), Ivory Coast.
The nature of the emergency prompting the diversion is not yet known. the flight was transiting the Gulf of Guinea on flight plan track for Johannesburg when the diversion was initiated.

Flight AF990 has now left cruising altitude and is on descent, passing though FL160 for the diversion airport. Flight crew are maintaining the emergency transponder code 7700 for a priority approach and landing ABJ.

Air France flight AF990 has now departed Abidjan for the destination Johannesburg O.R. Tambo International Airport (JNB). The nature of the emergency which resulted in today’s diversion is not yet known.
The aircraft conducting the AF990 service from Paris Charles de Gaulle is a Boeing 777-300ER, registered F-GZNT. This is an 8.8 year old wide body aircraft belonging to the national carrier Air France. It has been in operational service with the airline since its initial delivery from the factory in March 2016.
