Air France AF6 Paris-New York Declares Emergency

An Air France flight operating from Paris to New York has declared an emergency and is diverting to Brest.

Air France flight AF6, a Boeing 777-300ER outbound from Paris Charles De Gaulle (CDG), declared an emergency with squawk code 7700, and is now doubling back to Brest.

Having declared an emergency whilst still on climb through FL260 (26,000 feet), flight AF6 is now maintaining altitude and diverting. At this time it is unclear whether the aircraft will divert to Brest or continue to Paris (CDG).

14:05 UTC: Return to Paris CDG


Air France flight AF6 now appears to be making good a return to the origin airport, Paris Charles De Gaulle (CDG), after declaring an emergency enroute to New York earlier this afternoon.

The nature of the emergency is not yet known.

04:10 UTC: On Descent Paris CDG


Flight AF6 is now on decent for its return to Paris (CDG). The flight is maintaining the priority transponder code 7700 for the approach.

Weather for the flight’s return is MVFR, with 10 kilometres visibility and 2,700 foot cloud base. Active runways for the arrival are RWY 26/27. The aircraft is currently under vectoring for the approach, on descent below 10,000 feet.

14:30 UTC: Establishing Finals Paris CDG


Flight AF6 is now establishing on finals for its return. The aircraft conducting this afternoon’s service for New York is a Boeing 777-300ER, registered F-GSQK. This is a 19.1 year old widebody aircraft belonging to the national carrier Air France.

Having declared an emergency whilst outbound for New York and making a return to the origin airport, Air France flight AF6 has now landed Paris Charles De Gaulle (CDG).
