Air Europa 787 Madrid-Tel Aviv Declares Emergency

Air Europa flight UX1301, a 787-9 operating from Madrid to Tel Aviv, has declared an emergency en route and is diverting to Rome (FCO).

An Air Europa flight operating from Madrid to Tel Aviv has declared an emergency in the last few moments.

Have squawked transponder code 7700 whilst in transit, flight UX1301 is now diverting to Rome (FCO).

Diversion to Rome (FCO)

Having declared a general emergency with transponder code 7700 whilst transiting Italian airspace en route to Tel Aviv, flight UX1301 initiated a diversion to nearby Rome (FCO).

The nature of the emergency prompting the expedited diversion is not yet known.

Update 09:33 UTC

Air Europa flight UX1301 declared the emergency from the cruise, having descended from cruising altitude FL370 (37,000 feet).

Flight crew transmitted transponder code 7700 at 09:14 UTC, with the aircraft descending through FL270 and backtracking for Rome.

Air Traffic Control is vectoring the flight for an approach to Leonardo da Vinci–Fiumicino Airport (FCO) as it descends below 10,000 feet.

Flight crew have now established UX 1301 on final approach for RWY 18R, Rome FCO. Flight crew have maintained the priority squawk code 7700 for the approach.

Arrival Rome (FCO)

Air Europa flight UX1301, a Boeing 787-9 bound for Tel Aviv from Madrid, has now landed at Rome Leonardo da Vinci–Fiumicino Airport (FCO), following a diversion earlier this morning.

Flight Details

Flight data shows that flight UX1301 made a delayed departure out of Madrid–Barajas Airport (MAD) this morning. The flight logged an actual time of departure of 09:16 local against a scheduled departure time of 08:30 local.

The flight then set course normally, climbing to FL370 for the service to Tel Aviv Ben Gurion Airport (TLV).

A general emergency was declared whilst in transit over Italy.

The aircraft conducting this morning’s service to Tel Aviv is a Boeing 787-9 registered EC-NGM. This is a 4.4 year old widebody aircraft belonging to the carrier Air Europa.

It has been in active service with the airline since its initial delivery from the factory in February 2020.

Engine Failure The Cause…

As per @FlightEmergency on X, Air Europa flight UX1301 declared an emergency and diverted to Rome due to an engine failure onboard the Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner.

Update: Engine Failure

Per information for the online source Flight Emergency, Air Europa flight UX1301 experienced an engine failure, prompting the shutdown of one engine in flight.

The aircraft then diverted to Rome (FCO) as a precaution.
